Subject: The Warrior damage issue...
   Quoted from blizzard...

Class Role (Rogue)
The stealthy Rogue is an up-close damage dealer. Like the Mage, they can rip through mobs quickly and brutally using their wide range of combination moves. They are also worthy scouts, being able to sneak past monsters if they are skilled enough to see what lies beyond. And there's no one better than a Rogue at the end of a dungeon when a locked chest or door stands between you and hard-earned riches. We're not telling you how to play the game - one of the fascinating practices of this genre is the ingenuity exercised by the players every day!

Anyone see "best damage dealer" in there?

Class Role (Mage)
When seeking someone to introduce monsters to a world of pain, the Mage is a good choice. With their elemental and arcane attacks, it's a safe bet something they can do won't be resisted by your chosen enemy. Damage is the name of the Mage game, and they do it well. Their arsenal includes some powerful crowd control spells, also, giving them the ability to keep hordes at bay -- in fact, these abilities can be used on the most common creatures in the game, thus making them extremely valuable for this purpose. How about here, anyone see "best damage dealer" in there?

Ok that said let me show you something else...

Class Role (Warrior)
The Warrior can be a defensive, shielded tank, a damage-dealing powerhouse, or a mixture of the two. Their abilities obviously pertain to the art of close combat; their stances carry with them different moves for different situations and party setups. All in all, the Warrior is one of the prime candidates to capture and hold the attention of creatures while they die to sword and spell. We're not telling you how to play the game - one of the fascinating practices of this genre is the ingenuity exercised by the players every day!

Oh would you look at that!!

Yes warriors tank, and yes warriors do damage, and no where does it say warriors can't compete for damage supremacy.

Stop with the stereotypes, this is WOW, this is how it is. You don't like it? Try to change it, however the warrior forum isn't the avenue to bend the game in your favor.

All these abilities and no rage to spend it on!!

   Ah, the manual...

There have been some changes to the manual for precisely the reasons being played out here. A rogue is arguing that they should be relegated to "Top DPS" status because the manual alludes to such claims. The only purpose that serves is, once any other class may out-damage them in some particular circumstance, they can come to the boards with ammo saying "I was promised Top DPS but some warrior just yadda yadda..."

What some people are doing is attempting to pigeon-hole themselves and others based on their interpretation of "class role". When someone trys to do this for themselves it can affect others. If rogues are pushed to clearly dominate the DPS charts it would be at the trade-off of stealth, crowd-control and other abilities rogues can bring to a group. Now all you're good for is doing DPS. How boring. No more stealth runs with your druid buddies. No more stun-lock fun for you. You got a knife, go stab something. Still want to be assured a top DPS spot?

The devs are interested in hybridization, to a degree, for all classes. While there may be fundamental roles that need to be filled in a group, these roles should not be bound solely to class type. This allows for groups to be made faster and for people to get to playing, rather than standing around waiting for that particular class to show up, want to group and then go off on your merry way. DPS is something that is shared between classes and within a group because the benefit to the group is greater than the benefit of having one class being "Top/best whatever".

Classes now have broader potential for situations, which becomes increasingly more difficult and unnecessary to define in a short paragraph. If you are relying on a short paragraph to base your playstyle on, you are going to miss out on a lot of what this game has to offer. The game changes with each patch and the manual just can't keep up. You can use it as a basic guideline for understanding what the class is about, but trying to use it as reference material in a forum discussion is limiting, at best.

I'm just saying, this game is growing all the time and a manual is not a good reference point for an arguement.

As to the "Warrior damage issue"...

Warriors do damage just fine, thanks for asking :P
