With Eyonix's job description in mind (http://www.blizzard.com/jobopp/pr-assistant-community-manager.shtml) let's kick it off with a post from Tseric and go one from there (because he was MIA for a long time).
Poster: Tseric at 5/24/2006 9:22:40 AM PDT (About shaman class concerns) Q u o t e: Good commentary here.
While I can appreciate the difficulties presented with the totem system, it should probably be clear that a complete and total reworking of the system would not be as helpful as desired. As you mentioned, the totem system will not be left intact, but the adjustments being made are done so gradually. Massive change, while often requested (think shard system, think rage mechanics), is not conducive to solid game design. Slight adjustments to see measurable effects has always been the MO of the devs.
I will look into what observations have been made on the PTRs and try to provide some thoughts from the devs on that, along with your other topics.
Poster: Eyonix at 6/5/2006 5:24:28 PM PDT (About the shaman review) Q u o t e: Guys, we will still be making changes to the Shaman, and will certainly consider player feedback, as we always do. That is the reason I created a post soliciting your thoughts concerning the review. The Class Design team has read your feedback at every stage, in addition to watching the changes unfold on the Public Test Realms. The patch is nearing completion, and most aspects have been completely locked-out.
The review brought about many positive changes for the Shaman.
Yes, there are still concerns. We're aware. Every class review there has been cause for players voicing concerns, even with the final iteration of said review. Each review we see players making claims that the review wasn't handled properly for reasons pertaining to x, y, and z. The Design team is fully capable, and aware of everything you've been posting on these boards, either because they are here reading them, or because each region of the globe passes on player feedback, on a very regular basis.
Poster: Eyonix at 6/5/2006 9:37:48 PM PDT (About shaman feedback) Q u o t e: I'll continue to forward (or compile) everything constructive discussed on these boards to the appropriate members of our design team. We're not completely satisfied with all of the changes made in the Shaman review (we seldom are with first iterations), and it's very likely that we'll be making additional changes in the near future. My last posts simply indicated that I don't think further change will occur before the next major patch goes live.
I'll discuss in greater detail the feedback that's been presented with the class designers in greater details, very soon.
Poster: Eyonix at 6/9/2006 7:12:09 PM PDT (About the Enhancement tree) Q u o t e: We realize that many of you feel this tree is lacking raid viability, Badomen. As I've stated before, we definitely wanted to add more to the tree in terms of what it has to offer the "raider". In any case, we've read the feedback and concerns provided on these boards and will be watching this tree very closely once patch 1.11 releases.
Continue to provide your feedback, and we'll continue to make adjustments in problem areas.
Poster: Eyonix at 6/9/2006 7:42:26 PM PDT (About useless shaman spells) Q u o t e: We see requests to improve many Shaman abilities beyond just the Frostbrand Weapon. Such as Healing Stream Totem, Windwall Totem, Stoneskin Totem, and even Stoneclaw Totem. These are just a few off of the top of my head. We're going to be evaluating each of these abilities, along with all of the changes brought about by 1.11. We'll be reading through your feedback and watching players engage in all aspects of the game. Please continue to post your thoughts, and I'll do my best to be consistent in providing some level of detail in the areas that I'm able. Patch 1.11 is bringing about a number of improvements and it's important that we watch them play out to some degree before making additional tweaks.
Poster: Eyonix at 6/9/2006 7:50:59 PM PDT (About "staying power"/mana regen) Q u o t e: I've seen quite a few discussions concerning mana regeneration capability in general. This is something we generally prefer to give to the core caster classes. That isn't to say we don't want to add "staying power" into the Shaman talents, but one that requires the Shaman to place great emphasis on Spirit isn't the right direction as far as we're concerned.
We'll continue to evaluate this aspect of the Shaman, we promise.
Now that the overwhelming theme of "hang tight shamans, we'll have more in store for you in 1.12" has been well established let's take a look at the next post.
Poster: Eyonix at 7/14/2006 1:54:10 PM PDT Q u o t e: It doesn't look like will have any further Shaman changes implemented for patch 1.12.
Whoops.[ post edited by Lump ]

We were hoping to address some issues as they pertain to the Shaman in patch 1.12, but unfortunately due to the change of our production schedule, such is not possible -- which I've already expressed in another thread. I'm sorry that I indicated we'd likely have additional change in-store for the Shaman for the next patch, however, that was the goal at the time.

Q u o t e: Didn't you read Eyonix's other thread? He doesn't have control "over the content of information" so therefore it's ok for him to lie to us.
I didn't lie to you, friend. I informed you of our current design intent at a particular point in time, which has now changed due to elements out of my control.

Q u o t e: Fine. Fine. Fine. Fine. Fine. 1.11 is over, done, finito, kaput, dead, corpsified, whatever.
1.12 is looming and we're looking at Blizzard making a bad situation even worse with the WF totem nerf. Is there a timeframe on when you'll have an answer on why the change was made? We'd all prefer you leave your computer, walk down the hall, pick up a developer by the collar, and quietly ask, "WHAT ON EARTH WERE YOU THINKING?!" over defending your role in history.

The change to the Windfury Totem for patch 1.12 was implemented because we felt the burst damage of all melee characters under its effect was too high. Even once the change is live, the Windfury Totem will still have great potential in providing substantial improvement to the overall dps of a group.

Q u o t e: Question 1: what was the issue with WF that it needed yet another nerf?
Question 2: what other shaman issues are the devs addressing in 1.12?
Question 3: are we going to be nerfed even further?
Question 4: are you going to compensate WF nerf by giving us and enhancement in MTT?
Question 5: are you going to compensate the WF nerf by adding some + magic stats to our high-end armour sets?
Please, answer.
Please see my above response concerning our reasoning for the Windfury change. The only other patch 1.12 changes that I'm aware of concern Grounding Totem and Lightning Shield, and are minor. The Grounding Totem will no longer absorb the effect from the Entrapment Hunter talent. Concerning Lightning Shield, Air Bubble pockets in underwater regions will no longer consume a charge from this spell.
We have no plans to compensate the dps loss caused by the change to the Windfury Totem. We wouldn't have made the change if we felt the need to compensate.[ post edited by Eyonix ]

Q u o t e: how can you say "no changes" when we're getting our main raid totem for melee (windfury) nerfed.
DO you have any real clue whats going on with shaman or not?
The subject is on improvement, therefore my use of the word "change" wouldn't be appropriate in describing something that is pretty much a flat out "nerf".

Q u o t e: you keep saying things like "we don't feel the need to compensate" "we feel that *this* is *this*, and you never explain why. WHY WHY WHY? Why do they feel that way tell us WHY. The REASONING behind it. I don't think it's EVER been brought up that shamans and by extension horde raiding was a TOO good and needed a nerf. I honestly can't see how this isn't a joke. Honestly, what the hell? How is this even justifiable.
I just explained why, Ratul. We felt that in its current state Windfury Totem allowed for too much burst damage (dps). We don't feel the need to compensate because our goal was to reduce the totem's potential for damage in a group/raid.

Q u o t e: So what your saying is....they lied to you? And your playing the wiping boy for Blizz? You take the blame for there BS.....I would have quit my job by now. Maybe your just a phantom......you dont actually exist. Your just a mask used by a blizzard executive
No one is lying. We try and provide information and insight into our plans and goals for various aspects of this game's development. Things change, unfortunately. It's this type of reaction that prevents me from providing players with greater detail of future content.
