It should be compared to other spells with similar effects. Take renew for example. Even with over +500 to healing my renew still only heals one person for around 1500 health. With lightwell, on the other hand, every ten minutes i get 5 renews (which each costing a tiny fraction of a normal renew) WITH +100 more to healing than i already have. Each.
Ok yes it cancels on damage, but think about it this way. What if 5 priests in a raid get lightwell? Thats 25 ten second renews at EXTREMELY high mana efficiency.
Now lets look at the fact that renew and the lightwell effect stack. That's, for me, about 2.5k healing in 10 seconds. And thats while i can be casting other things. It increases priest efficiency and healing ability by TOO MUCH if damage doesnt break it.
Imagine any boss fight you've ever been in, from the mauradon princess all the way up to nefarian. Would you ever NOT have wanted an extra 5...10...30 renews on your tank? Wouldn't that have made all those boss fights much easier? Maybe...too much easier?
I see boss fights going like this. Tank charges, begins gaining agro. You begin to heal. Drop a renew on tank, top off his life. Drop the lightwell right next to him. Resume healing. Whenever tank feels like it (in the next two minutes) he uses a charge. Maybe the rogue takes a hit, he uses a charge. Meanwhile, your job on healing has become around 8000 hp easier, and you save 2 seconds worth of spell cooldown from renews you didnt have to cast (factoring in the 3 second lightwell cast time), allowing you time for another flash heal or most of a gheal. And this is assuming your not in a raid group. In a raid group, a single tank might get thousands and thousands of extra health from the lightwell ability, trivializing bosses from scholomance all the way to BWL.
Blizzard has every instance encounter in this game set up around healing ability. There is no way that they could boost our healing ability by the amount that i see priests calling for and still leave this a balanced and interesting game.
So please stop comparing lightwell to a secondary profession.
