Ok, I am pretty much Arcane/Fire myself with no real intent to go into Frost for my own reasons, but I am curious...
Why is being specced in both Fire and Frost (hoping that the Mage talent review makes this more viable than it is now) such a bad thing? I see people saying that they dont want improved fireballs with improved frostbolt and shatter, but I ask this...
Right now the bias is towards Frost because of so much high end content centered around fire resist... so what happens when they put in a frost resist dungeon? The areas by Arthas/Lich King, when they come out, are certainly going to have frost resistance to some extent.
Does the elementalist build (again, assuming that the talent review does what it promises and makes this more viable) not allow us for greater versatility in being able to counter this sort of thing?
It sure beats... 'I am specced fire, I am useless in BRM' and 'I am specced frost, I am useless in the Frozen North'?
Just my thoughts.

By spec'ing primarily in Frost and Fire, Arcane is left out which most consider to be not a good thing. Arcane has a lot of utility which many mages rely on and find difficult or unwise to spec out of. Basically, most will spec in either fire or frost, but keep points in arcane for those necessities like instant AE or Evocation.
So, with 1.11, the devs are looking to create more play between the three trees by removing some of the "must-haves" of the arcane tree. This is also approached by maintaining the power of some talents, but reducing the number of ranks required, which allows talent points to be put back into the pool.
