Subject: Complete 1.10 Mage Changes (Compiling)
These notes include the changes thus far. Some of these may be bugs, but oftentimes these "bugs" make it to the live realms anyways.

If you have any questions, go ahead and ask them and I will try my best to answer :)!

1. Patch Notes

  • Improved Frost Ward - This ability now functions properly again.
  • Improved Fire Ward - This ability now functions properly again.
  • Detect Magic - This spell no longer triggers procs on the spell caster. This was being abused to land debuffs without getting on the creature's hate list.
  • Ignite - This talent will now only trigger off fire damage generated by mage spells. In addition, when a fire spell is reflected back at the caster, the caster will now correctly receive the Ignite damage.
  • Arcane Brilliance - Range and area of effect increased.
  • Impact - When a fire spell is reflected back at the caster, the caster will now correctly receive the Impact effect.

    2. Frost Nova Change [Possible Bug]

Currently on test, if you frost nova a person, the person will not be able to change the direction that they are facing. This is very helpful versus caster classes or if you happen to be close to a rogue or warrior, as it prevents them from being able to "face" you.

Note that the druid's Entangling Roots is also affected by this.

    3. ToEP/ZHC Change

The two trinkets no longer stack. Using one trinket will trigger a cooldown which last the duration of the trinket buff. The trinkets are not however, on the same cooldown.

    4. Arcane Missiles/Blizzard Change

These two spells can no longer be recasted while they are currently being channeled. That means that you can't cast any of these spells while you're still in the middle of casting it.

    This is a verified change.

    5. New Magister's/Sorcerer's Gear

The upgrade quest starts at either Thrall's chamber (Horde), or King Magni's throne room (Alliance).

    Set Bonus:

    Magister's Regalia
    Set (2 Pieces): +200 Armor.
Set (4 Pieces): Increases damage and healing done by magical spells and effects by up to 23.
Set (6 Pieces): When struck in combat has a chance of freezing the attacker in place for 3 sec.
Set (8 Pieces): +8 All Resistances.

    Sorcerer's Regalia
    http://img389.imageshack.us/my.php?image=sorcerer6vn.jpg
Set (2 Pieces): +8 All Resistances.
Set (4 Pieces): When struck in combat has a chance of freezing the attacker in place for 3 sec.
Set (6 Pieces): Increases damage and healing done by magical spells and effects by up to 23.
    Set (8 Pieces): +200 Armor.

    Complete Sorcerer's Set Stats (8/8):
    + 728 Armor
    + 104 Stamina
    + 145 Intellect
    + 72 Spirit
+ 1% chance to hit with spells
+ 1% chance to crit with spells
Increases damage and healing done by magical spells and effects by up to 127.
Lowers spell resist of target by 20

    For an Interactive Preview: http://www.wowchina.com/topic/1.10/new_set/

The quest line must be done in order. You do not need all the pieces at once, but you will need the first three pieces. You cannot skip around in quest order, all quest must be done in order.

    Step One
Bracers are the first piece to be upgraded. The questgiver is found in Thrall's chamber (Horde), or King Magni's throne room (Alliance). He tells you to collect 15 Venom Samples from Spiders/Scorpians in Silithus, and bring these and 20g to him. The drop rate seemd to be 30-50%, so its not bad at all. After giving you your shiny new bracers, he sends you to gadgetzan to talk to a friend of his.

    Step Two
In Gadget, you talk to one "Mux Manascrambler". He requests 1 Delicate Arcanite Converter, 4 Greater Eternal Essence, 10 Stonescale Oil, and 40 Gold, as well as 25 "Volcanic Ash", obtained from Lava Pools in Burning Steppes. He wants this to build an "ectoplasmic distiller" for his newest project, an "extra-diminsional ghost revealer". Volcanic Ash is easy as hell to find; its all over the place, and you get 1-3 per pile. Gathering it shouldn't take long at all.

After assembling the Ectoplasmic Distiller, Mux sends you off with it to gather Ectoplasms; twelve each from Silithus (tortured night elves), Winterspring (ghosts of the highbourne) and EPL (Banshees, though Eyeless Watchers drop them as well.) Each Distiller use consumes one goblin rocket fuel; the eight he gives you ought to be enough.

Once you've taken these back to him, he tells you to go back to Burning Steppes and kill Magma Lord Bokk and bring back his Magma Core. Bokk is quite easily soloable in basically every way...he moves slowly, he's stunnable, he doesn't hit that hard, he has relatively low HP, you name it.

We're still not finished with the step-two series! Now we need to go to Winterspring to get a "Fel Elemental Rod" for Mux to use as an energy channeling rod. Sheesh. Fear not, though; for all this work we (eventually) get both the belt and the gloves in one fel swoop, and the gloves are epic. This rod costs 50g...Mux tells you to get him to give it to you for 40, but I'm not really sure how, or if you can. Either way, the imp is in Darkwhisper Gorge, in the cave to the left. You can sneak past the two Slayers at the beginning, but you'll have to run past or kill one of the Manastalkers.

However, NOW that this is all done, Mux sends you back to the original questgiver, and you get your belt and epic gloves! Your next step takes you, along with the Extra-Dimensional Ghost Revealer, to the entrance of Stratholme to talk with the ghost of Anthion Harman.

    7. Banned/Affected Mods

These mods are currently banned on test because they have certain capabilities that violate one of these rules:

  • Toggling autocast for pet actions requires input to work, like commanding your pet does.
  • SpellStopCasting() requires input to work, like spell casting does.
  • Addons and macros may not call or hook functions that initiate movement.
  • You are no longer able to modify the Blizzard XML and Lua files.
  • Trying to spoof item links will disconnect you.

These will probably become unbanned after the creator of the mods remove the parts that are affected by these new changes.

This is in fact considered a bug and is affecting a number of roots/snares. Should be working with previous functionality in 1.10

The coding for this function was causing other, undesired effects. Current plan is it will not be implemented into 1.10, so the old mechanics will still be in play. Will probably be revisited some time in the future.

Aside from that, nice compilation of material.
