Subject: mage talent review, do we need?
that is the question, do we realy need one?

if you look at the normal mage specs. here are the common posibilities...

-28/23 arcane fire crit build... most of the time with imp scorch, but sometimes with imp fireball.

31-20 arc fire... obviously arcane power/pyro build, and very fun :p

31-20 arc frost... stellar frost build capable of HUGE damage from shatter crits. one of my favorites.

21-30 arcane frost... my personal favorite, i personaly have 5/5 frostbite with none in the imp range for fn/coc... pve goodness :D

21 30 arc fire... great dps build and with normal +dmg gear you easily reach 1100-1200 fireballs / 425-500 dmg scorches. BOOM is this builds middle name.

28 23 arc frost... a more dmg centric frost build in my opinion. but still is equaly viable as all the above.

27 24 fire frost... people who spec elemental say they love it and will never look back. this is the purest dmg build. maximizing both crit skills. i have never done more reliable burst dmg then with this spec (without burning 3 min cooldowns). but in my opinion, pve suffers without arcane.

there are more, but the above are the cookie cutters, and with these cookie cutters there are always variations. some with imp scorch over impact, or imp fireball. some peeps put only 4 points in imp frostbolt and 1 piont into the extended chill talent (cant think of name :P )

ALL of these are viable, have strengths and weaknesses but they ALL get the job done :p.

what class can claim as many viable talent possibilities. IMO.. None.

we do have some garbage talents... wand spec ftw :P. but the only other that i can think of are the fire/frost ward talents. and those seem like the would be extremely usefull, just there is never any room for them :p.

for the combustion haters... ive done the math and combustion yeilds higher predictable burst dps then pom :p. not counting dual crits, but seriously, how often does that happen?

mages do have problems, but in my honest opinion NONE lie within the talent trees.

my 2cp

/iceblock (:D cant flame with IB... IMMUNE)
Lets Do This, I'm a Cashew...

I like your assessment. From what the devs are saying, they are pretty comfortable with the talent layout for the most part. When the talent review is coming, I wish I could say, but when it does I don't think they have intentions of any kind of "massive revamp".

I am just concerned with players looking for some "class over-haul" that is likely not going to happen.

Your question is something any reasonable player should ask themselves and seriously consider. It's nice to see someone asking it directly and with a fairly thoughtful breakdown.

It appears we are on the same page.
Bob is my co-pilot.
