Subject: INT is useless
A mage with 4000 mana but a lot of +damage gear will outdamage a mage with infinite mana and no +damage gear in ALL situations. The 4k mana mage has more burst damage and ALSO more sustained damage, since fights rarely last long enough for someone to burn through 4k mana, evo, 2-3 mana stones and mana pots. And even if the damage mage eventually runs out, the mana mage will not catch up in terms of damage dealt before the fight is over, no matter the mob.

So, INT is useless for a mage. Wake up, Blizzard and either buff the mod or stop putting so much of it on our items. You already put SPI out of its misery by replacing it with x/5 second mods.

To buff INT, 2 things need to happen. First, raise the crit per INT. Second, make INT impact mana regen. The fact that mana regen is not impacted by the size of your mana pool is the biggest flaw in the current stat system. Evo, pots and stones all regen the same amount of mana for someone with 4k or 10k mana. That means that a mage who initially had 2.5 times as much mana has maybe 1.5 times as much after evo and stones.

Q u o t e:
I define "decent" as "competing with rogues for #1", as we were promised in the manual.

This is why the manual was changed. Any time a mage gets outdamaged by anyone, they are going to come to the boards and say "Blizzard promised me the pwn, but I don't see it!". Simple fact is, mages are going to be outdamaged by some classes in certain situations or under certain conditions. I have seen many players who do not wish to come to terms with this.
In other news, the sky is falling.
