Am trying to understand why more than 18 (and soon to be 36) macros is shund by Blizzard. What is wrong with having an unlimited amount of macros?
18 Macros only covers my emote hotkeys. And each one of my emote macros does 3 to 4 emotes using functions like IsAltKeyDown().
For my warrior. Just about every warrior ability I have uses a macro. Most of these macros basically check if I have enough rage. And if I do not have enough rage to use the ability, the macro only generates a sound warning instead of spamming the server with the CastSpellByName function. I also use macros for my abilities so that I can use the same hotkey to cast different abilities depending on what warrior stance i'm in. For instance one of these macros will only cast Overpower if i'm in Battle Stance, otherwise it will attempt to cast Revenge if i'm in Defensive Stance.
Then I have a bunch of macros for things like: mounting, switching weapons and gear, casting trinkets, opening profession windows, accepting quests, passing leather balls to other people, switching languages, summoning pets, and much more.
10% of the time I spend on this game is messing with macros.
I just want to know why.. Why can't we just have an unlimited number of macros? What is the reasoning behind the cap?

A couple of reasons:
* We wanted to add per-character macros with minimal impact on the API and to minimize the work necessary for implementation.
* At some point we hope to be able to save them on the server. Saving account-wide data requires significant architectural changes to our server clusters, so we're not sure when this will happen yet.
