Why does Blizzard have to completely break nearly every addon everytime a patch comes out? Addons are what make the UI usable, bearable, and worth tolerating. They simplify the mundane things that Blizzard either neglected to implement or implemented poorly. I don't expect Blizzard to do extensive testing to make sure addons would still work, however how much is really changing that causes practically every addon to now fail?

I usually don't respond to these kinds of posts, but I'll try today...
Our priority is the efficiency of the built-in UI. To this end, we make changes every patch to add functionality, improve performance, and reduce memory usage. Our secondary priority is to make it easy to add interesting and full-featured third party addons using the addon framework. To that end, every patch also has new features and improvements on old features that are used by addons.
The end result is that while every patch is an overall improvement, it does mean that addon authors need to track changes in upcoming patches and test their code on the test server to make sure everything works correctly. Most addons work without changes, but a certain percentage will always need to be upgraded to work with new patches.

Hey Ivo, relax. It was a legitimate question, and I did my best to provide a helpful response. Let's not fan any flames here. :)

Q u o t e: Not complaining here, but a request. Could you guys do the due diligence of putting a warning in the patch notes to users that they need to back up certain things when a change is going to say...wipe out 3 months worth of raid tracker data? That's just an example.
You mean, oh, something like a section in the patch notes labelled IMPORTANT, or maybe a sticky at the top of the forum?
*grin* Sorry, I couldn't resist. :)
