Subject: Thinking about getting WoW, have a few Qs...
I'm liking what I'm seeing so far, but I have a few questions that could help make the decision easier:

1) Is there anything stopping me from being both a fire AND frost mage, or are there only a limited amount of skills you can buy until you're maxxed out?

2) If I were to go with a melee class instead, are they particularly gear-dependent for non-PvP situations? I.e., can someone who solos or only duos make due with whatever drops and whatever he can afford with the money he makes fighting?

3) Is there some sort of a sidekicking system (closest thing I can think of is City of Heroes) that will allow 2 people of drastically different levels to play together doing the same quest?

4) Are queues to log in to servers a common occurence, or something that only happens during peak hours for the more popular servers? I'm looking for a server I can get into reliably and has low latency.

Limitations would probably come in the form of talent selection. Mages have access to fire and frost spells from trainers as they increase in level. At level 60, the majority of spells from all schools (fire, frost, arcane) will be available, save for spells acquired through talents. Recent talent changes have allowed for more 'elementalist' builds, using both fire and frost.

Warriors are more gear-dependent than other classes. However, there should be plenty of gear available from questing and other smaller-group play.

Not as such, no. Most players will use higher-level characters to make crafting goods for lower-level characters. Also, while there is no game-design method like side-kicking, players find other methods for higher-level players to assist lower-level ones. Having a 60 run you thorugh Deadmines comes up a lot.

Queues definitely occur more during prime-time hours, but you should be able to find a number of low-population realms with a little searching and elbow grease. You can check guild recruitment forums or individual realm forums. Searching the realm list during peak hours might also give you a quick idea of what realms are low-population during those times.
