If you lose your cd-key or gets stolen does it matter, can you be affected in any way. Im trying to decide wether or not to bring it with me to college incase i need to reinstall.

It's actually referred to as an Authentication Key as it does differ from a traditional CD-Key in that it is simply used in the account creation process. While we do recommend hanging on to it, it isn't necessary, and holds no control over the account it was used to create.

Q u o t e: EXCEPT when you have a problem with the account, maybe someone hacked into it or whatnot, and when you call tech support, sometimes they ask for the auth-key. They did me anyway.
Our account services representatives may request your key for verification, but it is not the only verification we request, and it isn't required. They will request other pieces of identification if you have misplaced your authentication key.
