Here is what Blizzards official calendar shows for the Midsummer Fire Festival -
Q u o t e: Type: Holiday Event
Date: June 21st - July 5th
Location: All over Azeroth
Today is the 5th. TODAY is the last day of the festival. And you guessed it, the bonfires and the NPCs to turn in the quests are gone. Its amazing how Blizzard can take a fun event and completely ruin it for many players.
I have a very small group of friends with level 55 to 60 characters. Because one of these friends had to undergo surgery, we had to start the pet quest, A Light in Dark Places, rather late. We managed to get three of the four instances done. Last night we had started doing the last instance when a storm blew through and my power went out. But as frustrating as that was, it wasnt a big deal. After all, Blizzard has stated on their official calendar that the event lasts through the fifth.
So, in spite of one of our group having to ignore his wife yet another night, thankfully shes a rather generous soul, we are scheduled to meet up again tonight after work to conclude all our hard work and finally get our pets. And yet when I logged in this morning on Blackhand the bonfire in Stormwind is missing. Even if the bonfire is still in the instance, which I assume it isnt, theres no way to turn in the quest if the quest NPCs are no longer in the game.
We overcame a surgical procedure. We overcame Mother Nature. But it seems we cannot overcome Blizzard cheating us out of our promised last day of the event. I guess we never should have even tried in the first place.

The Midsummer Fire Festival was scheduled to end after the fireworks and festivities that took place throughout July 4th. Technically, it ended when it was intended to end. Still, I understand your frustration in regards to the listed date on the website; we'll work with the web team to ensure these end dates are clearer in the future. Apologies for the confusion.

Q u o t e: Thank you very much for the response, Kisirani. I think that due to the confusion, the replacement of simply the quest NPCs for a single day could serve to alleviate a lot of the frustration caused.

Unlike the Scourge Invasion, this is not something that is easily or quickly accomplished. While I understand you'd like extra time to turn in your quests, I'm afraid the Midsummer Fire Festival will remain over until next year.
