Subject: Blue - Collision Detection?
Do you know what it is? When do you plan on implementing this. This way fireballs, arrows, anything can actually obey natural laws of phisics and not go through Walls, trees Etc.

Collision detection can be a pretty slippery slope and requires a lot of checks to be done. Generally when there is no collision detection being used it's being done for the sake of saving on processing too many things at once.

As things are now at least you need to have line of sight before you can even use those abilities. Adding collision detection to that would be a very long and arduous task and require much more of people's systems. I'm sure many would enjoy the idea of being able to duck behind a tree and have the fireball not hit them but there are no plans for anything like that at this time.

Q u o t e:
Not to mention the griefing capabilities. You can logjam doorways with people.

Exactly. It opens up more avenues for griefing that just aren't necessary to enjoying the gameplay being offered.

Welcome to the PvP world......... griefing is a way of life.

Yes, but it's not truly PvP either. PvP requires skill. Griefing like the collision detection of EQ affords (not to pick on the game at all) only requires a large ogre or a troll to stop up a doorway or escape route. While you may feel that takes strategic planning, in truth it is a skilless tactic that truly benefits no one.

sorry :( But hey...great minds think alike :D

i only read pgs 12345...and 8 :P

Neth? whatya think about that? - the combat collison?

I like the idea myself but there are reasons I don't go into a lot of detail on my own personal preferences for things like this.

First, I don't like people to get the idea that I play favorites when I work very hard not to.

Second, I don't want anyone to think that because I like an idea that it will happen. The most I can do when I like an idea is pass it on.

Third, as things stand now, status is still the same and there are no plans I'm aware of to change collision detection even on a combat level.

It's important to take note that World of Warcraft is a constantly evolving entity and anything could be possible however, it's also important to maintain a certain level of expectation. I don't want people to assume that something is in the works when it's not and I certainly don't want to tell people something will never happen when it could.

Also to go back to the idea of griefing by blocking doors and such, I want it made clear that I realize there are valid tactics that can be used in combat based on collision detection, but I'm also aware of the 'easy' griefing that comes with these sorts of things as previously mentioned.
