Subject: Jonathan the Revelator?
So whats the deal with Jonathan the Revelator, the NPC out by the AQ Gong? http://wow.allakhazam.com/db/mob.html?wmob=15693

I have not done much of the AQ Sceptor questline but I figure he plays a part in it.

My question however lies in the reasoning behind his name. Historically, John the Revelator, also known as Saint John the Baptist and John the Baptist, is credited with authoring The Book of Revelation. (For some simple info, Wikipedia has some stuff on John the Apostle and Revelation: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_the_Apostle)

Considering the historical and contemporary controversies surrounding Revelation, I question if this NPC's name is appropriate in this game world. I was under the impression that Blizz frowned upon overtly religious themes.

Caveat: I am not a religious zelot here, rather a full blown California liberal who took a few courses in early Christianity back in college... I just want to know the motivations behind this NPC and what the community's thoughts are. I am not sure if I DISAGREE with having an NPC named such a way, I just find it interesting.

Then again, I may be reading into it wrong and one of the Devs just really likes Depeche Mode...

Q u o t e:
OH tell me who is that writin'
John the Revelator!
Oh tell me who is that writin'
John the Revelator!
Oh tell me who is that writin'
John the Revelator
Writin' in the book of Seven Seals

Oh tell me what is he writin'
'Bout the Revelation
Oh tell me what is he writin'
'Bout the Revelation
Oh tell me what is he writin'
'Bout the Revelation
Writin' in the book of Seven Seals

...Ok, granted... a little more interesting with the actual music... but hey, what can you do.

That same song popped into my head as I read the first post.

To answer the OP a little bit. Blizzard has always taken common names and pop culture and altered it a bit to put into the World. This is always meant to be in fun and as something for people to talk about a little bit. It certainly isn't ever meant as anything offensive.

I just wanted to pop in and let people know to watch the direction of the discussion. If it goes too far off-base it's going to end up on lock-down.

Just fair warning.

As for the song btw... I like the Depeche Mode one but I think John The Revelator from Blues Brothers 2000 is the best. It's still playing in my head though.
