Could a Blue who feels they can take up Caydiem's former lore addict position answer this question?
I understand the Light being a philosophy more than a religion and I've read about the Three Virtues and how altruism is as bad as hedonism in this philosophy, but it still leaves me wondering where the magical abilities of the paladins come from.
Furthermore, if they are exclusive to those following the paladin order and teachings, how do the Scarlet Crusaders, who clearly bring pain and suffering to the world (and universe by the Light's teachings), still wield the same abilities?

Alot of the responses you've gotten are right on. It's a choice of how one uses the power and not always just about where that power comes from.
Faith in the Light is based on an acknowledgement of the feeling of connection between yourself and the universe as a whole. Then you must understand that your own happiness and well-being is attached to that connection.
In the Warcraft RPG book it goes further to differentiate that those that follow the Holy Light realize that there is more to the world than just the self. Knights of the Silver Hand in particular follow the ways of the Holy Light.
To light a candle is to cast a shadow.

Q u o t e: Nethaera, youve never played an undead priest? The holy power comes from the suffering we have endured. Its faith in ones self and the power of suffering that brings its power. When i play my priest i buff and heal every horde i see because it is my role as the faith of the horde to do so.
That and every little extra hp that hordie has is one more nelf i can bring to the "light".
Faith is suffering. So suffer for me.
Edit: Would you say their connection to the univers is via the feeling that the whole universe owes them?
Yes, but if you believe that suffering is what is good for you and (by extension) the world then perhaps it works for you in that way. ;)
"Fear is the path to the Dark Side. Fear leads to anger, anger leads to hate, hate leads to suffering."
Just stepping stones right? ;)

No sorry. No Jedi here.
I'd also never try to 'replace' Caydiem. She has her own place in the hearts of the community members.
I'll just have to make my own path. :)
