Subject: For you, Tseric
First things first, this game is amazing and, in my opinion the best MMORPG out there. It is in this light that my Socratic nature comes forth and I tend to point out the little things, and sometimes the big ones. There are many issues with this game, as there are any game that has ever been made, but unlike many games those of the MMO genre have a distinct and overarching advantage. They can tweak, fix, and even overhaul whole systems and areas of the game. This benefit has become the life blood of most, if not all MMOs. Each and every game within this genre comes out at release and the months ahead are filled with patches of fixes, content, etc.

World of WarCraft has done an amazing job of adding content and game systems that have immensely added to the depth of this game. From the addition of Battle Grounds, the Honor System, 20 and 40 man raids, Dire Maul, etc., Blizzard has done an awesome job with the growth of this game. With the rumors of world PvP objectives, this games player versus player aspect seems to be falling in line with what I originally expected. Looking towards the future all seems extraordinarily bright and welcoming.

To give a little of my personal background surrounding this game I have followed its development and progression since its announcement so many years ago and been an actual player on and off since open beta.

With all of that said, I have a few topics that I would like to explore. Firstly, the Honor System is a point of major contention amongst many players in this community. As a casual gamer with a job, college, and a social life to maintain, I as many others, cannot simply grind out endless hours to reach rank 14. When I first heard of the honor system I envisioned something to the extent of what was implemented. But unlike the current system, I believed there would be a division of obtainable and decaying ranks. The permanent ranks would, in current honor standings, be up to rank 10, where you could obtain a set of armor that would not only aid your play style but show that you had put in the effort just as the D1, D2, T1, etc sets show you have logged many hours into raiding. The decaying ranks would be those of the hardcore nature, wherein the players would pvp for hours upon hours and reap the highest rewards and if they slacked, they would not keep their rank, as the best of the best would have to constantly prove themselves. My question is, will the Honor System be overhauled in an upcoming patch and if so what can we as a community look forward to? Also, will we see many Azerothian and Kalimdorian PvP objectives? It is my belief that many zones could use this great addition, it would not only bring more life to a few dry zones, it would fulfill the war component that seems so lacking for this world in strife.

The second issue I would like to discuss is the apparent lesser level of quality that seems to have made itself manifest with some of the graphic content that has been released. Specifically, I would like to point out the lack of unique armor models. In essence, armor serves two purposes: statistical advantage and awe-inspiring imagery. If I log oh so many hours for a certain set of armor, then I should be rewarded with both nice stats and appealing graphics. There are many examples of where this graphic content has fallen short of the Blizzard Standard. The most glaring are the drops and rewards from the higher end instances. For example: the armor sets from the ZulGurub instance look dreadful, as they are a collection of re-colored versions of generic armor and not the themed eye candy they should be. The AhnQiraj armor sets look nice but they fall prey to the same exact problem the PvP armor sets do, though that armor has models not seen elsewhere in game, the visuals are cheapened by the fact that each armor type (by type I am referring to cloth, plate, leather, and mail) look exactly the same with the exception of different color schemes. Along the same lines are the Dungeon 2 sets. Instead of granting casual gamers with a new and fresh look, they are forced to wear a re-colored and retextured version of what they have staring at for a very long period of time, in some cases well over a year. Will these items along with many other have their models upgraded to look like they should?

Though these may seem like minor problems in a game so massive and well put together, it is the little things the make a game great, it is the little things companies put into their games that created the Blizzard quality we all love to play and enjoy.

On a post-conclusion note, what about Hero classes? How far have they progressed, if at all?

But why did you have to use my name specifically?

/sigh

Ok, to sum up.

  • Honor system is not static and is something we continue to pay attention to. Nor is it something we are necessarily content with in its current form.

  • Placeholder graphics will probably be a sticking point for a long time. We do have graphical update reviews, but most of our artists time is currently being used for Burning Crusade work.

  • We are still interested in alternate character advancement, but the term 'Hero Class' should probably be discarded. There is way too much expectation carried in the words. The theories and ideas that have been aimed towards alternate character advancement will not likely take the form of 'new classes' and player speculation on such things is fairly divergent from what design ideas have been discussed.
