Subject: Question for Blizzard: Skill Based PvP, How?
Recently there was an interview on Gamespot with Jeffrey Kaplan. In the interview Kaplan said that Blizzard planned to make big changes in the honor system and add true skill based PvP to WoW. He even acknowledged that the Honor system rewarded time spent instead of actually skill, in addition to describing fixes for the lack of World PvP in WoW.

If WoW PvP isn't based on skill, then what is it based on? Most classes have counters to each other's abilities which would suggest there are paterns which a skilled player would take to defeating his enemy.

It actually quite obvious what PvP is based on. Gear. It all revolves around gear, which also translates to time spent (months-years). A player in full epics is at least 3 times as powerful as a player in blues. Gear has been taken overbaord, in any game gear should not have an incredible effect on your character. That causes the game to be centered around which pieces of armor you have on and not the actual playing style, skill, and strategy of the player.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Here's my question:

How is Blizzard going to make WoW PvP skill based? In 1.11 they are adding yet another raid with even more powerful epics. In addition, the expansion pack is creating the new Jewel crafting profession which essentially is yet another way to buff up your gear. Now, we don't only have gear and enchants governing the strength of characters but "Jewels" as well.

Seriously, was Jeffrey Kaplan fired for saying that? Because I think WoW gear has tipped it over the point of no return and Blizzard knows it.

We'll be discussing many changes planned for PvP as they are ready to be discussed. I know that the word 'impatient' would be an understatement when describing the desire for PvP changes, but they just aren't ready to be discussed as of yet. We'll get you information as soon as we are able.
