Subject: Vanity Pets: Canines?
   Where are the dogs?

I mean, there are 7 types of cats and there is the 'Worg Pup'.

If you can have the Timmy's White Kitten chasing you around into battle, why not a Jack Russell? Or a Newfoundland? (Of course, anyone seeing a Gnome being followed by a Newf would be obliged to suggest, out loud, that th Gnome slap a saddle on that big boy.)

And who wouldn't want a Miniature Dachsund running after them?? Especially when they run too fast downhil and their back end starts to swing around like a Semi about to jack-knife?

But, I digress.

Just seems to me that in the MMO's I've played, cats show up as pets, but not dogs. Weird.

Many of the pests that exist in Azeroth are either kept well under control, or other more appropriate pets have been used to control them. The majority of dog breeding done IRL was to fulfill specific roles, chores, or tasks. It simply wasn't necessary to do so on Azeroth as the tasks could easily be filled by less traditional creatures.

If you don't buy that, I'll go with my usual "Wizards did it."
