I regard the fanboi/hater labels in the same vein as the hardcore/casual labels. They do little to portray reality effectively and are often used as derogatory terms to lump people into a group or mindset. Once the label is applied, it is then easier for some to simply stop listening to any points put forth in a constructive discussion.
Or, for those more receptive to sarcasm:
Remember folks, it's all about attacking the person by any method available. Forget the issues. Compiling arguments based on details of fact is time-consuming and someone may prove you wrong. However, when you play with the politics of emotion, sweeping generalizations are not only easy, they're fun! Don't forget, it's us against them! Or you against me or they...them...ehhhh. You get the idea.
