Please, add to the discussion of this suggestion both here and on the OP in the suggestion forum. I started the thread back in October solely to get mages talking about what they wanted to change in the mage class. All was done in anticipation of these upcoming weeks where focus will be on US and how to balance us in the long term.
The defining point of my position is that mages should have talent trees that "focus" on playstyle rather than school of magic. Just wait till the Frost equivalent of MC is added to the game. Even more important is consideration of how to hold mage interest in the long term. As a 60 warrior, I can respec from Prot to Fury and have a whole new purpose in the group in both PvP and PvE. The same can be said for every class that has undergone a talent revamp thus far. Currently, respeccing a mage is ONLY respeccing which spell does all your damage - AM/Frostbolt/Fireball/Scorch. Were we allowed to spec according to the main strengths currently listed on the WoW website - AoE/Single-target DPS/Utility (food,water,ports,buffs), we would have something to look forward to after we'd grown bored with a particular role. Mages would stick around playing Mages as long as Druids will stick around playing Druids.
You're welcome to disagree with me, and please feel free to post those disagreements here. But, since I'm welcoming any and all feedback, please refrain from being a jerk about it. Let's keep this a constructive thread... for once.

I've only posted about this in general discussion one other time *month's ago*. I felt it was appropriate to post it one more time due to the significant addition of a talent calculator in order to attract the attention of more of the community.

While I wouldn't necessarily agree with the concept behind a number of your proposed changes, I do appreciate your approach, and the thought behind your efforts. I think that the current Mage review is going very well, and once the specifics are unveiled, players will recognize that their feedback in many cases has definitely influenced aspects of our design decisions.
More than likely it will be Tseric that delivers you that information.
In any case, the main purpose of my response is to say nice job, but more importantly give you the blue tag - as I believe this thread has the potential to offer some good discussion.

It's a discussion about World of Warcraft. Why wouldn't it be in the General Discussion forum? We generally don't disallow class discussions from taking place outside of their respective forum. If a particular class discussion begins to dominate the General forums, we may redirect players, but that's about it.
