Subject: Whys Blizz so opposed to new server rulesets?
I don't get it. I've heard some pretty cool server ruleset ideas, like improved world pvp worldsets, co-op questing, ffa pvp etc etc etc.

Why not? what's the harm? You don't HAVE to play there, so what's the harm?

At the heart of it, we have two core mechanic rulesets for realms: PvE and PvP. RP realms are additional behavioral rulesets, but they have no changes to core mechanics.

Every other ruleset that has been proposed asks for changes to core mechanics. The designers are very much dedicated to the faction vs. faction idea, first and foremost, thus leaving FFA and co-op potential rulesets in a poor light before consideration even begins... but it's more than that. When you add more rulesets that change core mechanics, you then have to account for these mechanics in every single change you make to the game moving forward. This adds exponential degrees of complexity to each and every addition to the game, and increases the likelihood that something, somewhere, won't work.

The answer is still as it's been for a while -- we have no plans to add more rulesets at this time.

Q u o t e:
Algbreic, not exponential. Exponential would be if each ruleset, say, doubled the complexity. What you're talking about is adding to the sets of extant rulesets, rather than introducing a new independent variable. Hence:

currently: total work = work*2 rulesets (PvP and PvE)

proposed: total work = work*3 rulesets (PvP, PvE and whatever else)

exponential progression would be:

total work = work*2 rulesets * 2 variants

That's all.

Apologies and appreciation for the correction. I'm a wordsmith and artist... less so on the mathematician angle, alas. ;)
