Subject: Accounts Credited Due to Realm Issues
As many realms were inaccessible throughout the day due to network and authentication issues, we will be applying a 24-hour credit to all active accounts. The credit should be processed within one week, and we'll notify you ahead of time if we foresee any delay with that. We regret any trouble you may have experienced during and after maintenance today; our server team is currently working on resolving the last of the maintenance-related issues at this time. Thank you for your patience as we worked through these issues.

We'll keep you up to date if any other developments arise.

Q u o t e:
Why is this in the past tense?

<-- Still cannot access my server.

Any chance we'll get a post on what is causing this issue? And why some of us are affected while others are not?

It's not fully in the past tense, if you read the entire thing. It mentions, in present tense, that our server team is currently working on resolving the remaining issues.

If you're looking for specifics on what happened and why, I can't give them right now; a lot of that is internal information, but I'll do my best to encourage a more specific post at some point tomorrow. Needless to say, something went awry, and we were working with our network provider throughout the day to fix the issues as they occurred. My hands are tied regarding anything more specific than that.

As for why some are affected while others are not... the realms aren't all located in one place. There are multiple sites.. what affects one cluster of realms may not affect others.

And still nothing remotely like an eta?
Or any other kind of real status report?

The realm status page says everything is fine. Why bother having the page if your not going to keep it updated.

The realm status page is connected to the physical realm servers. It is not connected to the authentication server, which is what you have to go through to get there. The realm status page is technically accurate, therefore, but I do understand your concern.

Q u o t e:
Me too.

Really, Caydiem, I appreciate that you posted this, but it's not what I was looking for.

I still can't log on. Nobody in Blue seems willing to confirm that you're even AWARE that we're having this problem. Some people are in the game, others can't get to the server lists... What's up with that?

I don't want a 24-hour credit, so much as just some indication that you guys know we're having this specific problem, and some explanation of what you've figured out so far, or even what your hunches are, and failing that, some jibberish that means nothing and makes no sense, but will at least allow me to think that SOMEBODY knows the problem and is fixing it.

Like,

"Certain hypercapacitor relays that leverage nodes in interlocking TCP/IP bandwidth relays are malfunctioning. We've narrowed the problem down to a hub in southeastern Mississippi, and are dispatching tech teams to the area via helicopter as I am writing this. In fact, I just got off the secure landline with the pilot of the chopper, called Blizzard-1, and he has confirmed that the team has parachuted down onto the roof of the server building, clad of course in skin-tight leather outfits, and they will be replacing the hypercapictors in the next few hours. However, once they are done with that, it will take some time for the new IMAP/TCP data to propogate throughout the network, so players east of the Mississippi may have problems logging in throughout the day today, and into tomorrow, while the new data is compiled and disseminated."

See, makes no sense, but at least makes me think somebody's doing something. Give us hope!

Yes, we're aware of it. I bolded the part of the message that says we're still working on it, in fact, since a lot of people missed it (and understandably so, I'm not 100% coherent at this stage in the game since I've been on this subject all day).

The hyper-technical response you're seeking would 1) take days to compile, and then 2) wouldn't be approved because it contains confidential information.

As I said, I'll do what I can to get some sort of post-mortem to you, but we can't release a lot of details.

I can maybe rephrase: Is it possible to annouce the likely suspects of servers that could be possibly affected.....Like Uldum. A brief list that says, we are aware that some of <no target> servers are currently seeing errors in character authentication.

Honestly, no, because it doesn't work like that. I understand where you're coming from, but it doesn't quite function that way.

We'll let you know of any new realm developments as they arise. In the meantime, I ask that you keep this thread on topic.

Ascaron, you're asking for an ETA that I can't provide. I always post ETAs when I have them, but that isn't very often.
