Did they change the default operation of the camera all of a sudden? Used to be if I set it in some direction with my left mouse button it'd return behnd my character if i moved or hit a mouse button unless i used the 'control' key when setting it.
Anyone else noticing this? or did some interface option just get changed?

Because now you have more options. I don't know if you've filmed any movies, but if you were hard up for people and were starring in it yourself, it was difficult to film anything while you were moving. The camera options allow one to experiment a bit more. There are some people who like the functionality you protested. Regardless, you still have the old setting if you don't like the new ones. ;)

Stupid beyond words.
It wasn't a "default" setting, really. There was previously one way the camera behaved. Yes, I'm aware it would have been smoother had the new default been set to the old behavior, and that's something to pass along to the developers and keep in mind for next time. However, I would appreciate it if you were constructive in your replies, rather than being insulting and sarcastic.
