Subject: The nicest way to play is to lie.
The human condition states we're all jerks. Here's how ya go around pretending you're not one.

Scenario one: You need a heal. Might be because the healer is sleepy, neglectful, just bad, got distracted, or has done a really good job up to this point but missed something for some reason.

What do you do? Asking for a heal often upsets the healer. Answer? Lie. Y'know cosmos, how you can have it opt to do an auto caller for a heal, or running out of mana? Macro the emote. That's right, you need a heal, use the macro, and tell them it's just cosmos. Not good enough? Say you made your own UI, it /yells it too. Macro a /yell with a /healme.

I've played a druid, and had a reputation as just about the best healing druid around. Still, even I faltered once in awhile. My brother plays a druid now, he calls me on the phone when we run instances so I can tell him who to heal because he's slow.

Scenario two: Someone bothering you? Asking for lockpicking? Food/drink? Begging for money? Speak chinese.

Pretend you're a gold farmer. Wo shi zhonguo ren = I'm chinese, wo bu ming bai ni shuo shen me - I dont understand what you are saying, Lao jia - forget it.

It's somewhat mean, but it gets the job done. Real players around your level will know you're not chinese, but someone your level tends to not be that rude or do those things.

Scenario three: Someone needs to pick up the slack and start fighting more/smarter. Y'know cosmos DPS counter? Fake it. Make a macro.

Obviously, you won't need to if they really are behind. Technically this is just being an even bigger jerk rubbing it in their face. But hey, whatever works. It tends to annoy people a little, but push them to play harder. Of course doesn't work in all situations, but more often than not, just doing it once works.

Scenario four: Explaining to someone their spec is bad. Don't. There's no lie for this. You state facts and numbers, but no matter what you do, people will call you a liar, or get pissed at you. Just look at oomkin druids.

However, this is another good moment to bring in an alt of yours, of their class, and slight of hand situations so you look better than what you are. Just like a mage can frostbolt for 4700+ with trinket once in awhile, or world of roguecraft, you can make an illusion. It sways people more kindly, and impresses newblings. Never say you're better, and be careful with your words. Manipulation is the key to success.

If you have more, feel free to add. I might edit this and add more when I think of them.
Gharbad the weak - a shaman. Irony?

You could also pretend to be Bruce Willis in each of those scenarios and alter the outcome.

XD Good one emonix. I've done that on other threads, and ingame.

Remember when I threw that one terrorist out the window? Awesome.

Yep, you totally owned that terrorist. :)

Eyonix,

What part of...
... do you people not understand?

Are you not Blizzard employees?

Did your company not write the linked policy?

(Note: I play on one of the RP servers, and I see names like this all the time. Doesn't bother me so much on standard PvE/PvP servers.)

I'm not a Game Master, nor do I enforce naming policies. If I see a name which offends me, I report it, and encourage you to do the same...

The name BruceWillis doesn't offend me personally, and it was totally awesome when he threw the terrorist out the window.

Eyonix, while I agree wholeheartedly with your comment about him throwing the terrorist out the window, I have to say that your statement above is a pretty bad policy.

You are - in fact - a Blizzard employee, and do - in fact - represent your company to the public. In effect, you speak for Blizzard when you post on these forums. You should be the very first one to uphold its policies.

With all due respect, whether or not it offends you personally is irrelevant.

And I stated, the player should be reported using the proper channels available to everyone for reporting inappropriate and/or offensive names. I don't enforce in-game policy, Thaumator - I'm very sorry.

For the record, I don't think Eyonix sucks, by any means. Quite the opposite, in fact. I know that a CM's job is difficult and their patience is probably tested on a daily, if not hourly( or more), basis.

My point was not that I'm offended by the OP's name and I think it should be reported. In fact, I couldn't care less. My comment to Eyonix is that it his position is inconsistent with Blizzard's policy, and that I think it should not be. In essence, Eyonix IS Blizzard on these forums, and his posts should (and usually do) reflect that.

In principle, different representatives sending different messages to their customers is simply a bad practice. Whether we're talking about a character naming policy for an MMO, or any other company in any other industry. Saying "Hey it's not my job - tell someone who cares" isn't the way to do it. And right or wrong, that's how I took his comment.

It is not my intent to get into an argument about this. I merely stated my opinion, and lets face it, to go any further would be making more of a mountain out of this molehill. I think Eyonix and the rest of the CMs do a great job, I just had an issue with this one comment.

[/soapbox]

I'm not inconsistent with the in-game naming policy, Thaumator. I stand by the fact that names which are seemingly inappropriate should be reported, and I've done so in the past, however, rarely. I truly want this game to be enjoyable for everyone, and spend a great deal of time on my play characters attempting to enrich the gaming experience for others. I feel strongly that I'd be doing wrong to someone which enjoyed their silly name, if it were that I reported it, but didn't actually find it offensive. The fact is, if I don't find personal offense with a name, I'm not going to report it, and I believe whole-heartedly that such is my right, regardless of my status of employment here at Blizzard Entertainment.

You're correct in stating that my job is to represent the company, but I don't believe that I fail here because I simply chose to reveal the truth of my thoughts on this matter.
