Subject: Weather: how is it going to work exactly?
Tigole made a post awhile back saying that weather was "in and functioning" but had to be removed due to video problems.

http://forums.worldofwarcraft.com/thread.aspx?fn=wow-general&t=5940725&tmp=1#post5940725

So obviously, they've got the mechanics all figured out for weather, but just need to fix some tech problems.

My question (questions?) is, how exactly is weather going to work?

1. Will it be static and always the same? ie: it will snow in Dun Morogh, day and night, constantly, at the same level

2. Will it be the same weather in each zone, with a set time pattern? ie: it always snows in Dun Morogh from 6:00-10:00 then stops from 10:00-12:00, etc, every day, same time

3. Will it have random changes, both to the type of weather and time? ie: some days it snows in Dun Morogh, some days it rains. Might rain for an hour, then change to snow at night. Might be snowing for 5 days straight with no stop, then no weather at all for a few days, then rain for a day, bla bla bla...

4. Will we be able to see weather patterns in different areas, ie: on the world map or something, almost like a forecast.

5. Will there be fog effects, or will, say, snow, be blinding enough to act like fog? I ask this cause I'm ASSUMING they're going to put in an option to toggle weather on/off (some players computers just wont be able to handle it), and in that case, players that turn off weather (thereby getting rid of fog that reduces how far you can see) would be able to see players from farther away in PvP enviroments, giving them an advantage over players that are trying to make their game look prettier with weather :)

All just questions for the sake of questions. I'm just curious about the specifics.

Any suggestions/comments from players, or better yet, an answer from Tigole/any CM's?

   Weather hasn't been scrapped.

I do know that there are different degrees, but I don't know how it will end up being implemented.

Weather, to my knowledge, will not affect players. Yes, the Wind Stone thing is a shock, but it's something you can control; random lightning, particularly when you're fighting something, is uncontrollable and doesn't really add to a fun play experience.

I disagree. Random things like that ARE the fun play experience. Getting jumped by a devilsaur in Un'goro has to be one of the most hilarious experiences in my playing.

That's also controllable. You can be alert and watching for a Devilsaur.

There's no way to watch for lightning. :P

Look up.

'Hmm, I'm in a storm! Better watch out for lightning!'

Okay, perhaps I should be more clear.

We don't want to force you out of a particular area because there's a certain weather pattern occurring at the time. That's precisely what would happen with lightning. It may seem like it'd be a "fun" thing at first, but without a substantial means of preventing it, whether through knowledge, skill, or otherwise, that fun factor becomes increasingly frustrating.

Now, I know people don't like it when I'm contrary just for the sake of being contrary, but I can't help myself here...

There are, in fact, a couple warning signs before lightning strikes. Before a bolt of lightning strikes, a small stream of ions crawls up from the ground, and down from the clouds, eventually meeting in the middle of the air. When the connection is formed, the excess electrons from the anions in the clouds are quickly dumped into this stream of ions.

But anyways, it is possible to "feel" this stream of ions as it crawls. This is the thing that makes your hair stand up on end before lightning strikes near you, because your hair becomes ionized and are repelled from each other.

Sooooo... yeah. That served little to no purpose, but it was fun anyways =)

I meant in game terms, not in real life.

Off with the Devil's Advocate hat, you. ;)

The put it in the background like it is in Nethergarde. We aren't asking for anything beyond this - stop trying to turn a simple question into an onslaught of useless spamming.

No, you're not asking for anything more. Other people in this thread were, and I was responding to them, actually.

No, I don't have details on it, and won't until we draw closer to the time when it will go live.

The weather will be great don't worry, aside from that...I too would like to know whether or not the weather is dynamic or static (is it that hard to answer?)

When it's not cemented yet? Yes, yes it is.

Quoting the obvious apparently is a job requirement for being a CM.

Tell me Cay, do you *ever* give any useful information other than, "blah blah blah, it's being worked on. No ETA, no clue as to how it will work, no idea why its taking so long, all we can say is, Buff Shamans?"

I mean. Seriously. I've gone through at least 5 of your posts in the last 10 minutes and seen nothing except for your complete inability to give validated answers to actual questions.

Saying, "It's being worked on," is about as useful as taking a piss on an electric fence.

I give information when I have it, Bamont.

If you like, I'll happily make up something entirely fictional but sounding informative on any given question you'd care to name. It'd certainly sound impressive, but it wouldn't be factual.

There are times when we don't have details to give. This is one of those times. It isn't always the case, but honestly, a lot of people just want acknowledgement on these forums more than anything else. Now, when I have specific details, I happily give them, but they quite simply aren't available all the time.
