Subject: Aggro Question
Please bear with me, this is a long story followed by an important question.

Ok, so I'm walking through Feralas....

Wait, wait, I know, waaaaaaay to much for a level 30 Shaman, but hear me out. I was there with my younger brother who is a level 45 Hunter and he's helping me farm Skins for the AH, so we're alright. On to the story that will lead to the question.

We get to these hypogryph things. We're killin' 'em good. But then 3 of them take us on at once. This usually isn't a problem, but they got the drop on me and my brother fiened death.

I ran all the way back, only to be killed as soon as I got my body.

So I ran back again, this time, I waited 'til my brother said the coast was clear. When it was, I rezed, but then RESPAWNS! I die again, but this time, so does he.

I run back while he's typing lots of curse words and semi-muteable material. Since he's been sitting there typing the whole time, I tell him not to bother running back, I'll rez him. (I am a Shaman after all.)

When I get there, the respawns are still there, so I can't corpse rez yet. I sit there for a while, working out the timing, and when I have a window of opportunity, I rez and start rezzing him.

0.2 seconds away from the rez, I aggro and die.

We both use the Spirit Healer. At this point, all of my armor is damaged to Red. We're both standing there, and I get attacked! (Why the h3ll was something that close to a graveyard? Oh well, that's not my question.) With no armor, rez sickness, and being 15 levels too low, I die. My brother runs, and he makes it.

I rez AGAIN! and Astral Recall back to the inn to spend 26 silver on my armor. My brother bails, and I just log.

Now the question:

The reason for all of this, as well as all the other mobs that ATTACKED ME FIRST was because I had more aggro, obviously. Durring our entire 1.5 hours in Feralas, each and every mob attacked ME FIRST, and that is also the reason for the horrific story above.

Why the h3ll was a level 30 Shaman attracting more aggro than a level 45 Hunter AND his pet in such a high zone? I was under the impression that they'd want to attack him first since he's closer to their level and also a larger thread.

To repeat, why was I being attacked first?

All help is appreciated.

Subject: Re: Aggro Question
Basically, a lower level player has a larger aggro-radius than a similar level player, with respect to the creature. As you get higher in level, your aggro-radius will decrease with respect to lower-level creatures. A level 60 in a newbie zone will probably only aggro if they run directly over a creature.

Now, in your case, you draw aggro first by proximity. This is going to keep aggro on you unless some sort of action is taken by your brother. Once you go onto the hate list someone has to get more hate for the creature to change targets. Outside of attacking or taking some other action (such as healing) the aggro will remain on you.

Q u o t e:
Why would a Warrior be worried about Aggro? Isn't that their job?

What are these worries you speak of?

It's ok, that response appears in the majority of threads I enter. Unavoidable trend/tendency of the forums.

Good retort with the warrior/aggro thing ;)
