Subject: What the MVPs should be...
At this point, and I'm sorry if it offends any of the MVP's (well, don't really care all that much truthfully), but frankly imho, the MVP status is as insignificant as it goes.

Rewarding people posting normally and with helpful advice (what everyone should be doing in the first place) by making them "special" ?

I think beyond this (let's give Blizz the benefit of the doubt and assume they did that to promote a "be nice" model), I think the MVP status might actually be made useful by creating something that is sorely lacking in WoW, and has been asked many a time by the community:

Class representatives.

It has been said over and over again that it is not the role of the CMs to fill this position, and that they only play certain classes to test from time to time some specific play features.

Now what about some trusted people to act as the representatives of their class (being themselves recognized good players at the max of their played class), and being charged with collecting and summarizing the data collected by players, and presenting this to the CMs/Reps ?

They could also help in transmitting down to the players class specific data and incoming changes.

My 2cp...

I appreciate your desire to see class representatives, Thrundil, but that is not the point of the MVP Program nor will it ever be changed to reflect as such. There are many disadvantages and issues with volunteer class representatives that we feel would do more harm than good.

Our supervisors and the development team are happy with the current feedback process, but if you wish to voice your suggestion, I would suggest eMailing wowcmfeedback@blizzard.com -- it goes directly to our supervisors.
