Subject: Purpose for the Respec charge
What is the purpose for the increasingly large charge to respec talents? I really do not understand why it is in place. To me it hinders players from being able to play their characters as they wish, or to try something new.

What would be so game breaking about having a nominal fee for the respec? Is it game breaking for a priest to spec Holy/Dis for guild raids but then spec Shadow for BG?

We don't ever want players to feel as though they have made choices which have "broken" their character. For most, placing points into a talent incorrectly or choosing a build which ends up not supporting a particular play style does exactly that - makes a character feel broken, which is the reason we allow talent respecing to occur. With that being said, we also don't want players to feel as though they can freely jump around from talent build to talent build depending upon the aspect of the game they are pursuing at a given moment, as if such could be done so easily and without a cost, there would really be no point whatsoever to specializing your character - which is what you are doing when you place your talent points.

I hope this explanation offers you some insight concerning the fine-line that is involved with creating a system of specialization for characters that allows enough freedom to prevent players from backing themself into a corner, yet isn't so free that the system itself becomes void of purpose.

Choosing your talents wisely is very important, your class trainer will punish you accordingly each time you wish to make a change.

You = troll. There's some good suggestions above, and you post crap like this. GG CM.

No, I used an analogy to explain how even the most basic of games use systems which act as a punishment of sorts. Games are designed with limitations and obstacles for a reason. I'm sorry that you have mistaken my point as an act of trolling.

I've read the suggestions contained in this thread, and to be honest, none of them are new. We have no current plans to make changes to the current system involved with talent respecing. If we decide upon such, we will certainly let everyone know. My original response was designed to provide some information as to why the system is designed as such - I cannot offer promise of change.

You were saying?

Fangtooth discussed improvements to the particular concern described by the original poster. He didn't indicate changes to the current talent respecing system. I'm sorry you misunderstood. More than likely these changes Fang eluded to would come in the form of overall talent improvements.
