Subject: Cay: Oceanic Server update
Hey Cay, hope you had a great time at Blizzcon, I guess you can see by the thread title that I couldn't go. ;)

Anywho, do you have any news on the oceania compromise and if you do, may the tread please be stickied so threads of this nature are no longer created.

Sorry to pester, it's just pretty hard to get the motivation to play wen you know you 'may' have to reroll.

Less than one week ago, I asked you folks to be patient, sit back, and wait. I explained that gears were turning, that you've been heard, and that I would tell you when I had an update, most likely in an entirely new thread. I also stated that, because of all this, there was no real need to continually make posts like this.

I've seen at least three new ones made in that space of time.

Honestly -- when have I ever given an ETA for anything? It's exceedingly rare, and I can only do so when I have the utmost confidence in the timeframe. This is not one of those situations. I've already explained the status some weeks ago and told you I'd let you know when I had more information. That time hasn't come yet. Please be patient.

Ranadiel, there is a part in the Code of Conduct about nationalistic comments as well. You are not immune, and such violations will be acted upon.

Q u o t e:
How hard is it to create a few new servers with the word "Oceanic" slapped next to their names?

How hard is it...?

You know how you click that little box when you first log in that says "United States", and there are no other options? That's a UI change, and would require a patch. That's one example of certain things that might have to change if we go forward with such an option.

As far as realms go, I do hope you are aware that we don't go down to our local electronics store, pick up a desktop, and host the new realms on them. Setting up realms takes time, and while we're not short on hardware at the moment, a significant amount of administration work is required. Understand that I've never once told you this is certainly going to happen. I asked regarding interest, and then said I'd see what I could do. That's it. I've been doing what I can to communicate your needs, and it's under consideration. That's where it is. That's where it was last week. If things change, I'll let you know.

Q u o t e:
So how long is it before the time comes that you can give us a time :) ?

I will give you the formula to calculate the ETA.

Multiply the average time it takes me to write a post by the number of names still sitting in the pool to be used as realm names. Once you have that product, divide by the average number of soda cans sitting on my desk in a week, then add the number of times I blinked while at BlizzCon and double it. You'll then have the ETA in hours.

Q u o t e:
Could a comment o this be sticky and locked on the main page? This would stop new threads comin up every week.

I cannot make a sticky on this currently; it would spawn a bunch of other sticky requests about frequently asked questions. :P

   So...

I hear that perhaps, just perhaps...

...Oceania-preferred realms will be released soon. Say around the time of next week.

Keep in mind that this date is subject to change. ;)
