Seems to me "mvp posters" as proposed by Caydiem are another reincarnate of the councilors of Ultima Online, taking on aspects of the Community Manager's jobs here on the boards because they can't be bothered.
Yet you yelled and screamed players down for suggesting such a thing time and again since the game went live because of "lawsuits and unpaid employee complaints, of which we will never implement such a system."
As councilors in UO did aspects of the GM jobs with answering questions of players and helping them with game mechanics, so to does this proposed MVP poster program to help answer player's questions and game mechanics. Just another Kerry like waffle of Blizzard, saying one thing then doing the complete opposite.[ post edited by Ashram ]

The system you refer to gave volunteers special powers in the game. They were required to perform a service and were given inadequate compensation, hence the lawsuit and everything that ensued.
MVPs have no such power nor privilege. They do not have access to the developers -- they are not class representatives in any way, shape, or form. They are not there to collect the feedback of the community. They are not, in short, what many of you have been asking for in terms of volunteer community representatives. It's a simple forum flag to recognize those who are considered excellent contributors to the community as a whole -- it doesn't necessarily have to be feedback-related at all, and in many cases probably won't be.
That is the type of system that's been brought up time and again -- a system of volunteer class representatives, or volunteer world event actors, and those systems are far, far removed from an MVP program. I've not once discouraged anything resembling our planned MVP program on these forums.[ post edited by Caydiem ]

Q u o t e: Cay did you sue EA/Origin?
No.
I'm not stating it from any one perspective -- that was the reason given for the lawsuit by those that started it. It's not my own personal view. I used to volunteer for an MMO back in the day and had no problems with it. ;)

Q u o t e: Tell you what ... and I know this is a crazy idea ... but ...
HOW ABOUT YOU SIMPLY MONITOR THE FORUM USERS YOU HAVE NOW!?!?!?!
... sorry Caydiem the point seems to be so easily ignored.
You have folks who post some of the most innane and obviously trolling posts in various Class/Server/etc. forums for no other reason to piss people off. They are clearly unintelligent and uninformative. They are designed to do nothing but disrupt.
CM's currently do nothing. In order to get posts locked you have to specifically utter completely horrid personal insults and report yourself.
Yes I've gone out of my way at times to test just how far you can go without getting banned here and to be blunt what you and the other CM's allow is disturbing. I've called people things that should not be allowed on public forums.
So my suggestion is simple:
Stop wasting time on silly stuff like popularity contests and actually do something to reduce the trolling and open hostility that takes place on these boards.
We are currently policing ourselves and it's not working.
wowcmfeedback@blizzard.com is the place to go if you wish to give feedback on our performance, Whispered. Thanks. :)

Q u o t e: Come on Caydiem my goal isn't to bust your balls to your bosses ... I'm talking to you because I RESPECT YOU.
If I didn't I wouldn't waste my time. You have to admit though that these forums are utterly filled with some of the most vile posts that can be found on any server.
Remember when Paladins would post 3 days straight of curse words and horrible disgustingly vile things simply to prove no one read the Paladin boards?
Still goes on.
Why not just hop up and bust out the beat stick and give a few bans.
Shoot if it would make the forum a better place I'ld hop on the 3 day ban wagon as long as when I came back we could all be mature and civil to each other.
It is an issue of manpower, in all honesty. The CMs don't spend a lot of time moderating because we all have other projects -- we will when we see something that needs to be taken care of, but that isn't our primary duty. Now, we do have Forum Moderators, and they do the best they can with what they have, but they're very few against a lot of people. Writing wowcmfeedback@blizzard.com with concerns about a lack of moderation will, in fact, help the situation.
