Subject: So what IS the malestrom? |

All I ever see of it is this big swirling image on the map, and I've wanted to know what it is and what it's history is for some time.
I never played the previous Warcraft games, though I'm sure playing at least one might help a little, but as it stands I don't have them and haven't played them, so please don't just tell me to go off and play those games.
I have a few questions, some should be obvious:
- What IS the malestrom exactly?
- My assumption is that it's a storm of some kind, and if it is, why doesn't it wane and finally fade away?
- I think I read somewhere that it was linke to a well, anyone care to elaborate?
- Also, I think I read that someone CONTROLS this thing. Any info on this?
- What is the malestrom centered over? Is there something below it?
- Is it possible to SEE the malestrom anywhere in the game other than on the map?
