There have been lots of threads recently about casual players wanting epic gear. I asked myself why does anyone want epic gear? why is the blue set not good enough? This is what I came up with:
Players want a fair (or in their advantage) fight in pvp and they believe that gear is important. Players feel they are at a disatvange when they don't have epics and are fighting people that wear them.
Epics for pve instances and farming would make the game easier and eventually less fun. The process of collecting the epics can be fun, but once you have them and start using them the game would become boring. To bring the fun back, Blizz would create stronger creatures, which will make us wonder how is that different than fighting monsters with greens.
Am I wrong? Why do you want epics?
(please discuss or flame, historically my threads don't get many responses).

I think your points are valid, but I think a sense of accomplishment is my main goal for getting Epic weapons and armor. When you are killing creatures for a quest, and an Epic robe drops, that is a great feeling. If you want an item and start farming the creatures known to drop it, that can take a while, but once the item drops it makes the time worth it.
