Subject: Ritual Spells: what happened?
Hey Blizzard, I remember back during beta that there was huge talk about ritual spells (spells that require more then one caster, such as warlock's summoning), and the devs said that there would be more spells such as these. Also of people thought that this was a great mechanic that could be used in a number of fun ways. So what happened?

All we have today in the form of rituals are Summoning and a few scattered "alters" which serve to prevent people of soloing some of the dungeons.

Can we expect to see more of these spells in the future?

Oh and while you're here, the devs also said that the spell/ability lines were unfinished in beta, yet here we are with largely the same powers that we had 8+ months ago. Why does the development of new spells/abilities stop around 30-40? Are we going to see a completion of these lists?

Thanks for your time.

Good question. I think the warlock communities opinion of Ritual of Doom may be less than favorable, but I find it an interesting concept nonetheless. I will ask a few questions regarding this.

In regards to your spells and abilities question, consider the implementation of talent-purchased spells as something in that direction. While it is nice to keep adding content for that sense of freshness, piling on extra spells/abilities isn't necessarily the answer. At some point, you are going to want to effectively balance what you have, rather than tipping the scales with new, added weight.

Q u o t e:
The reason that the Warlock community doesn't like the Ritual of Doom isn't that the Ritual of Doom is bad, but the payoff isn't remotely worth it. Make the Doomguard something ACTUALLY worth summoning, and you'll see people actually use the ritual. Why would I sacrifice a party member (or myself!) for a creature that doesn't do that much damage, and is as big a danger to me after I get it as it is to my enemies - provided I can even get it near my enemies without it breaking free and pathfinding itself into oblivion?

I understand what the common perception is of this issue. However, that is not the issue at hand ;)

what, pray tell, is the issue at hand then tseric if not the reward/risk nature of the ritual.

Whether or not other ritual spells were being considered for addition. Stop trying to hijack this thread.
