This is a message to Blizzard, please don't crowd it with complaints/flames etc. But lets keep it bumped so us Oceania players are heard. The reason for this post is simple, I believe Australian/NZ/etc players deserve to know why Blizzard won't nominate a server for us.
I'm not talking about a localised server, I just mean Blizzard nominates a server so when you click 'choose your region' when you start WoW you can select Aus/NZ and it gives you some limited server choices.
This is purely for timezone reasons. It's extremely hard to get groups for Aussie players on US servers. And while there are 'unoffical' Ausssie servers, it doesn't help much when players don't know about them before they invest time into their characters on other servers.
I feel since we pay the same price as US customers and receive less service, you should do something to bridge the obvious gap. I recognise that some things are financially or otherwise unfeasable, and I totally understand that. It's just I feel we have a right to know 'why' these things are the case.
So Blizzard, I just simply ask to let us know why the above proposed soution is so hard to implement. It may be you don't have enough time/it's too costly/you can't be bothered right now, but please tell us why, I believe it's the least we should get. When you are worrying about taking that 2% damage of the AC MS warrior, it hardly seems fair that you ignore giving us a desiginated server to be able to group properly.

There is no way we would flag one of the already-running realms as an official Australian realm. While there are many "unofficial" realms, they also have a great deal of North American players on them as well. Since an official Oceania realm would...
1) Have its time offset, and
2) Probably have a different maintenance time,
...this would severely inconvenience North American players who have been established on that realm for some time. It is one thing to create a new realm and set its time to be consistent with Australia; it is quite another to shift an already existing realm service to something entirely different, particularly when realm-to-realm transfers are not yet available.
In short, we still have no plans for an Australian realm at this time.

Q u o t e: Thanks heaps for the post Caydiem. I appreciate it. But what I propose is much simpler than changing maintanance time or anything like that. It involves no change to the way the server runs at all. The 'aus' server would purely be a label to direct players with the same timezone to the same server(s). We don't really care about changing the time offset etc, we just want to be able to play on the same server with like-timezoned people.
Yes, if you designated one realm as Australian, there might be some Americans who find they suddenly can't find parties so easily. However, they have a choice to go to another server. Currently, Oceania players do not even have that choice. So while nominating an Aus server might inconvenience some (and and emphasis SOME) US players, Oceania players have had this problem from the start.
You may not care about changing the timezone or maintenance time, no...
How long do you think it would be before the threads would start up, however?
"Why does the official Australian realm still have maintenance in PRIME TIME?!"
"It's still night when I play, Blizzard!"
I apologize, but we have no plans on putting a label on a realm that would essentially amount to very little while causing more support issues. :/
