Out of Date UI Addons
With 1.7.0 going live, please be aware that the following issues can be the result of out of date UI Addons:
Items may not appear inventory or appear as red question marks.
Characters may not be seen (character model is all white).
Players cannot see system messages or /random rolls.
Bags are not aligned correctly.
Players cannot loot (more below).
Mail items do not appear.
Inability to interact with quest NPCs.
Tradeskill screens/recipes do not appear correctly. This includes all entries in the tradeskill window showing up as orange.
If you encounter any of these problems, these can be easily resolved by resetting your UI. You can do this by following these steps:
1) Exit the World of Warcraft to your desktop by logging out of the game and exiting.
2) If you used an "installer" for a custom UI, see if it has an "uninstaller" and use it.
3) Rename the following folders located inside the World of Warcraft Program Folder WTF, WDB, and Interface folders to WTF-Old, WDB-Old and Interface-Old.
4) Restart your computer.
5) Restart the game using WOW.EXE. Don't use the EXE linked to a custom UI.
UI Addons and Looting:
This is a subject that unfortunately all too many people are familiar with. The story might be a bit different from time to time but the cause and effect are still the same. Group of folks kill X and drops an item that would be really neat for player Y. Only problem is that player Y either can't see the loot on the corpse or can not be assigned the loot by the master looter. While there are several factors that can play into this, we have found that in a large majority of the cases reviewed that it was due to third party UI addons. This is why we strongly encourage players not to use these addons especially if they are going to fill the role of master looter. Granted, there are situations where looting problems occur and they are not the caused by UI addons. However, these are very few in relation to the vast number that are.
Should your group/raid/guild have a loot assignment issue happen to you, here is what to do to ensure prompt help on the matter:
1) The master looter sends in a ticket to customer support. There is no need for the whole group/raid/guild to submit tickets. If anything, this slows down the process of finding out all of the necessary information when the queue is "flooded" with tickets on the same issue.
2) In the ticket to customer support, it would be helpful if it included the following information:
a.NPC in question.
b.How long ago the kill occurred.
c.Who got the killing blow on the NPC (if available).
d.What item is unable to be assigned/looted.
e.Who the item should go to.
3) This is the most important part. Do NOT loot the item with another character. If the corpse decays with the item on it, it's OK. We can still investigate and award the item to the appropriate player pending investigation even if the item has rotted. But to restate for importance… Do NOT loot the item with another character. Should the item be looted by other character for "proof" or "safekeeping", transfer of the item will be denied.
