Any official word on if there will ever be enchants available for items held in offhand (not weapons/shields, but caster offhand items)?
Id be happy if the current enchantments were made available to these items, or just as happy if new specific enchantments were made. Something like +heal/dmg, +mana regen/5sec, or even +armor/def.
Also, why have these type of items always been un-enchantable?

There are no current plans to allow for the enchantment of off-hand items. Right now, many of these items are things like lanterns, vials, flowers, etc... Enchantments on such miscellaneous items would seem slightly awkward. This isn't to say that it will never happen, however, the above combined with the fact that there isn't a strong or definite need to allow for off-hand enchantments means at the very least, you probably won't see such a change anytime soon.
