Does WoW have anything like the chat gem in D2? Something that they put in the game, but really serves no purpose other than to cause questions?

Make no mistake, while we cannot reveal its function, the Diablo II Chat Gem definitely serves a purpose and has exceeded even the greatest of our expectations.
Unfortunately, the first rule of Chat Gem is to not talk about Chat Gem.

Aww come on now, my messages are best received when my words aren't taken out of context. I stated very clearly that we're not planning on introducing new spells, unless absolutely necessary for the next few patches. This applies to all classes - not just mages, and in no way indicates that we're not going to be "helping" your class.

Since you're clearly proposing something so very reasonable, it will have to be considered. Unfortunately, it may turn out that the Shaman class is in greater need for the Onyxia's Flame Breath spell. This would be to compensate for their medium range shocks.
