I am the french guys who tried to get a french thread with some people because we are alot of french people on wow and we would like to be able to talk and write in our language (not in european french) but for some reason, your closed my post and I read forums rules and I did not find any rule who say to not post in french as I know so could you let us have at least 1 french thread... If you don't want, at least can you explain me why. I played blizzard game since warcraft II and I always though that blizzard was more open with french people than that ty. Plz answer me before closing this thread. Don't be afraid I will not start in other thread after this one... I really don't want to be booted for forums stuff.
thank you very much

It takes me a while to respond -- but I did respond. Check, if you like. I don't know French all that well, so I had to piece together your meaning from my own meager knowledge and the garbling of an online translator.
It boils down to the fact that the regions that connect to North American realms share a common language, and that is English. Blizzard Entertainment is based in the US, and the Community Team is composed of Americans. Now, most of us are at the least bilingual, but being able to speak other languages was a plus, not the primary requirement for our employment.
These forums are to communicate, both player to player and to and from Blizzard representatives. Sharing a common language helps promote that communication. Segregating does not promote it, not when the vast majority of our players know this primary language -- it only serves to break communication down and slow the process further.[ post edited by Caydiem ]

Q u o t e: Um caydiem, not everyone that lives in quebec knows how to speak english.
I said vast majority.
I am aware that some folks in Quebec cannot speak English, but to my knowledge we do not provide a French client that connects to the North American realms, either. (I could be wrong on this.) Again, it comes down to communication, feasibility, and what would have to occur should a French forum be made in this region (as I explained in the locked post).

Q u o t e: Yes, I agree. Wouldn't you therefore say it makes sense that two Quebecers who's primarily language is French...err...talk to each other in French?
That's all French Canadians have been asking ever since this game opened. I don't recall any French Canadian ever asking that a CM respond to them in French. All they are asking is that if they meet a fellow French Canadian; they are allowed to talk in their own language.
Coming from a country (Belgium) where 100 years ago my people (the Flemish) weren't allowed to speak their own language (Dutch); I have to say this brings a bad taste to my mouth.
You should also seriously consider that while YOU may be American; you have chosen to sell this game in Canada. Canada is a bilingual country. Like any good "guest", you should be expected to respect the mores and decorum of the country you are doing business in.
Of course; there's nothing illegal about this policy of language purity you're pursuing. But, quite frankly, I find it rude and inconsiderate.
Kinda disappointed with you Cay. I expect this kind of behaviour from the 12 year old trolls that frequent these boards; it never occured to me that the friendly CM you appear to be; also evidences the same lack of understanding and lingual elitism.
Makes me sad.
Lingual elitism?
Good sir, it's simply a matter of what is feasible in a business sense and a community sense. You know very well how players react to posts in other languages on this forum (which I do NOT condone). Having a French forum requires having forum moderators available at all hours that speak French, as we already have in English. That requires extra staffing. In addition, French is not the only language that would need addressing if we continued along this route; we've had Spanish come up before, which would require Spanish moderators. Then there's the Chinese, of course, for those folks in Singapore that prefer that language. More moderators there. The list goes on, and it's simply doesn't make sense in a business capacity to hire all those people for a very small (relatively) fraction of the forum-goers, which is in itself maybe 10-20% of the playerbase as a whole, give or take.
Our European team, for example, operates in three major languages: French, German, and English. Do they serve countries with languages other than those three? Yes. The vast majority of their community, however, understands one of those three languages fluently, and as such communication to them is best served by using those three, as opposed to hiring a ton of unnecessary staff for each language.
It's simply a matter of business sense and support feasibility. Every time you add in support for another language, each small bit of communication you provide gets more complicated. You know well how slow we are at times to give information -- much of this is due to the localization process. Imagine if we had two more languages. Five. The act of communication would get more and more ponderous when it didn't need to be.
Also, in regards to your "no one was asking for a French CM" post... if I read Arrak's initial (now locked) post correctly, he was indeed asking about French-speaking staff.
(EDIT: As for my own personal linguistic skills, I know enough Spanish to get by on my own in Mexico (I can't speak it "fluently", but I understand it well and can make myself understood with little difficulty); I also have some small knowledge of Japanese and Swahili. Asante. :P)[ post edited by Caydiem ]

Q u o t e: Has for the issue at hand, blizzard doesnt have to moderate a french forum. It would be costly and to complicated, but they could always let people strat tread in french.
If it's posted on our board, Schaefer, we need to be able to read it in order to make sure it follows posting guidelines. The forum policy applies to everyone.

Q u o t e: Hell, Blizz just needs to send me a ticket to California, a new car, 100K a year, a house and cover for my food and expenses. I'll gladly come and do it myself!
*blinks at the proposed salary, takes a deep breath, keeping a straight face*
Heh.
On a serious note, it has been determined that, at this time, we do not need a French-speaking CM or French support on the North American forums, for the reasons I've stated thus far. This isn't me speaking; this is our current stance as a company.

Q u o t e: They are under no obligation to pay any attention to language sensibilities. Heck, they could ignore English and post everything in Spanish if they wanted to.
¡Idea buena!
