Jesus people, stop it.
You cry about them doing it, when in fact you HAVE given them permission to do so by accepting the TOS and TOA. Namely:
http://www.worldofwarcraft.com/legal/termsofuse.shtml
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Q u o t e:
B. Blizzard Entertainment has the right to obtain certain identification information about your computer and its operating system, including the identification numbers of your hard drives, central processing unit, IP addresses and operating systems, for identification purposes without any further notice to you.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Before someone goes on about that the EULA is not enforceable and some such, heres another document for you:
http://www.okratas.com/modules.php?op=modload&name=News&file=article&sid=45&mode=nested&order=0&thold=0
So there you have it. You can not complain about blizz doing what they stated they may do, and you agreed to. You have claim if they sell the information they obtain from your computer, or you can stop agreeing to the TOA/TOA/EULA by cancelling your account.
It is a free world, you you have the choice. Suck up the scans, since by playing the game and accepting the EULA you allow Blizz to enact, or you can quit.
Stop crying about something just because YOU didnt read the contract you signed. Its your own ignorant fault.
EDIT: Exact wording from someone on page two, thank you.
This si what your looking for
"D. In order to assist Blizzard Entertainment to police users who may use "hacks," or "cheats" to gain an advantage over other players, you acknowledge that Blizzard Entertainment shall have the right to obtain certain information from your computer and its component parts, including your computer's random access memory, video card, central processing unit, and storage devices. This information will only be used for the purpose of identifying "cheaters," and for no other reason."
BUT This is where theres a fine line.. THEY CANNOT search personall DATA
"C. Blizzard Entertainment has the right to obtain "non-personal" data from your connection to World of Warcraft in order to make certain demographic assumptions regarding the users of World of Warcraft without any further notice to you. "
Inturn they are limited to what they can do. IF THEY BREACH THAT then THEY are in VIOLATION of their own TOS.[ post edited by Retribution ]

We'll try to get more information on player concerns about performance issues.
However, this is the security measure that was implemented to address players using hacks to increase speed, for example.
