The original thread concerning this topic has broke, and I wanted to share with you my thoughts on the matter. I've linked the original thread below. Feel free to continue the discussion here, taking special care to keep it civil.

I have to agree with the comment that Magor just posted. Everyone has a different opinion of what is and isn't fair concerning the minor details of distributing items they come across during a raid. With that in mind, every aspect of raid loot should be decided upon before the run begins, and participants that don't agree with what has been decided upon, shouldn't be present in the raid. I personally don't ever believe it's appropriate to take an item (regardless of the item or how it's obtained) because one simply feels entitled to it. When I play the game, it's important to me that everyone involved is enjoying themselves, and being in a group where a party member takes an item that the rest of group has opted to roll on isn't very much fun and to be blunt, it's pretty rotten and selfish ordeal to witness.
I realize that these are just my opinions on the matter, and overall this is a fairly subjective topic, however, I believe communication and and a bit of care for those you're playing with go a long way.

Q u o t e: "minor details of distributing items"
Might be minor to you. For those of us that aren't paid to play the game, it's a determining factor in why we're there in the first place.
By minor, I mean the not so obvious or clear-cut to distribute items you'll come across. Please read my entire post.[ post edited by Eyonix ]

Q u o t e: Eyonix,
At what point do some of these hotly debate items and topics become something that should be confronted by game design.
The idea of "play nice children" works ok on playgrounds, but in the online world, especially with people you've never gamed with before, this rarely, if ever, applies.
WoW has done a great job of trying to eliminate these type of things in the game through a number of means (although improvement is always welcome), when do these type of things get included into the loot mentality design?
Also, are Paladin skinners ever going to be able to skin anything required above 305 skinning?
It's my personal opinion that game design should never impose upon the decisions a raid group makes concerning loot distribution. Not in regards to issues such as this that is. As you can see from reading the number of different opinions on this matter, no one completely agrees, as this topic is completely subjective. It's not a simple matter of "play nice children", it's a matter of encouraging players to make decisions concerning fairness and apply it to how they interact with others. If you remove this, you might as well run UBRS with 14 NPC guards from Orgimmar on a version of the game not connected with anyone else in the real world.
These are the aspects that make up an online game, and it's up to players to meet other players that demonstrate a similar play-style and system of beliefs, and overcome any obstacles they may face when meeting players with an opposing play-style or contrary system of beliefs.
