Subject: Question about spirit.
How does the spirit amount to amount of mana regen gained? If that makes sense.

Basically I won a pair of gloves today in a group that has plus 5 mana regen every 5 seconds but gloves I have already have 14 spirit. So I dont know which is better cause I dont know the ratio of spirit.

While I don't know off the top of my head the spirit to mana conversion ratio, you should be aware that the mana regen on that item continues during times your spirit won't, such as while casting and the five seconds after the casting of your last spell. You may want to compare the items by running a few tests, which involve watching the rate at which your mana regenerates.

Actually, they changed spirit so that you continue to regen during the casting time of a spell, and stop regen once it completes.

Correct. My mention of after the casting of your last spell is indicative of that change. The moment you've successfully casted a spell, you will not regen mana for five seconds. You still gain mana while a spell is being cast, provided you're not under the influence of the five second rule, which has nothing to do with eating food that has fallen on the ground. :p

Q u o t e:
Each caster class has a different ratio of spirit/mana. I know that druids and priests get a rather large difference in the ratio.

But seeing that you're a mage, dont bother with spirit, it's useless for you.

Although spirit is definitely much more of a priority with some of the other class I play, I completely disagree with this statement. My Mage takes advantage of a high spirit quite often. I make especially good use of switching between spell casting and wands to ensure an optimal amount of mana is regenerated when needed.

Every person plays their own way of course, so yeah, spirit for some mages would be good I guess, unless you're on a pvp realm, in which case stam far outweighs spirit.

True, my Mage was created on a PVE realm and has had very little experience fighing other players, with the exception of a few little gnomes here and there which looked at me funny...and were flagged. =)

I know it's the trend lately to bash on mods, but if you're actually using wands on your mage, you're not playing him right. :( Even with the new wand change, you shouldn't be going out of mana ever really.

Thanks! I will unequip my wand immediately. I'm glad I found out early on that there was one specific way to play a Mage. :p

Eyonix is the worst mage ever. You regen while casting, just not for the five after.

All casters get 1 mana/tick per 4 spirit, except for druids, which have a 1mana/5spi ratio.

Worst mage ever, huh? Please read the second of my replies appearing in this thread and I think you'll find that what I stated is identical to what you just stated. So, now that you've seen this information, does that make me the best Mage ever, or perhaps best Druid ever, since we agree?

Nah, there was a mage in a MC raid I was in the other day who was only wearing his staff and PvP tabbard. (Either that or my client was bugged. I'm hoping I was just bugged.)

Unless Eyonix is in my guild, he can't be the worst mage ever. :P

Geeze. I just didn't like the way my armor looked with my staff! Cut me a break!

*Cry* -- He dodged my reply. :(

But seriously, it frustrates players when CM's say things like that. Even if CM's don't really have much to do with balancing in the game, and are just here to keep the community in shape, most people don't understand that, and when they hear a CM make somewhat noob'ish remarks on their class, they sort of freak out. :(

Your reply wasn't dodged, Veev. It was only inviting a "how to play your class" argument that I really didn't care to engage. I use a wand with my Mage. I'm not going to provide an outline of every situation that I believe it beneficial to do so. No, I'm not using the wand you've described. Also, please recognize that your mode of thinking and perspective which leads you to believe that a Mage using wands demonstrates a "noobish" playstyle and that my response also, "noobish", should only indicate that this is, for the most part, a fairly subjective topic.
