I play a 60 undead mage on Illidan, but for some reason it wont let me use my main character. That aside, from what I understand from another mage friend of mine, they plan to nerf our area of effect spells in the next patch in pvp.
The "supposed" nerf is the number of target instant arcane explosion can effect. While I agree with this as five mages can annhilate a raid group if done right, I dont agree with Blizzards mentality of nerfing the mage class every single patch. This last patch, seeing the "new unique" icon gave me a sigh of relief. Why? Because there wasnt a nerf to the abilities of our class. Our crowd control has been nerfed almost to ineffectiveness, blink was reduced in range, we are one of, if not, the only class ( I am not positive about this but i am fairly sure) that is subject to doing only 1.5x damage on our critical spells and not being able to spec for 2x damage in our fire tree, invisibility was removed from the class, our mana shield was majorly reduced in effectiveness, scorch was changed and the dot was removed so that we had our chances versus a rogue in pvp fights reduced. etc etc etc.
The mage class is still very playable, however, I simply cannot understand some of these changes given the tremendous increase in melee class dps(ours not getting a commensurate increase), the incredible effect and plethora of, fire resist gear in the game, the overwhelming lack of effectiveness of the frost tree snare spells to keep warriors, our supposed natural prey, away from us, anti-polymorph trinkets that are available to most classes, and the implementation of trinkets that can reflect our spells without a melee counterpart. Why are all of these changes necessary?
Blizzard, do you have anything positive you are going to implement for the mage or can we expect you to continue your trend of "balancing" our class and using bogus arguments about our dps when you are handing it out like candy to other classes?

I have not heard of this next "nerf". Please do quote a source, as I've not seen any official statement of the kind.
I did see a player suggesting that they do this as a result of some AE attacks that occurred on the Test Realms, but that is quite a stretch to Blizzard confirming any such change.[ post edited by Caydiem ]
