This isn't intended behavior. Any ability that provides complete immunity should cause the flag to drop (and not allow it to be picked up while immune), in much the same way that the flag drops if you use stealth or attempt to get on a mount with the flag.
Please note that preventing the use of abilities/spells/items as a flag carrier is only something we do if we feel it absolutely must be done to ensure the gameplay is fun.
