Subject: Migration Cap?
Hey, since the migration from both Bladefist and Daggerspine towards Outland will open this night, and it looks like it will be an Exodus, I was slightly wondering what the cap is for closing migration. I know none of you know precise numbers, but is it something it is worth worrying about? Has it happened before during a migration?

We have closed migration in the past due to the number of players migrating. There's no set number at which this happens, but the situation is evaluated every single day while migration is open.

If you want to be 100% sure to be able to migrate you should make sure to do it on Monday. This is especially true if you feel the migration will be so massive that it might be closed early. Though it's possible, it's very unlikely that we'll close any migration before the first full 12-hour window has passed.

Of course we don't know what blizzard considers in terms of numbers but in terms of the 'active/core' community, this is close to 90% of bladefist..

If that's a correct estimate I should warn you that I said "unlikely", not "impossible", regarding closing migration prior to the 12-hour window closing at 15:00 CEST on Monday. There are two realms migrating to Outland, which naturally means that 90% migrating from Bladefist makes it very likely the destination realm will be over-populated - more so than any of the source/origin realms are right now.

We'll be following the numbers closely.

Dont worry, during the first 12h period it will lag immensely making it insanely hard to acces account page, which will end up in ~50% ppl being able to migrate in the 12 h window and then blizz decides they gonna be real co**blocks and close migrations,

If only 50% manage to move during the first 12 hours, and that's enough to make us close the migration, then Outland wouldn't be able to support the masses anyway.

And please mind your language on these forums.

Q u o t e:
stoping the migration before everyone has moved will result in some of the worst forum spamming / moaning / banning you have ever seen :( with all the complaints.

...and a new realm (Outland, in this case) with thousands of players in queue won't result in much less spam.

Q u o t e:
I wanted this mass exodus to be a quiet affair so we might be able to ninja stealth it past blizz without them laying the cap down before we all migrated.

You think we don't check the migration numbers every day anyway? C'mon... ;)

Well... One would think that Blizzard would change its approach to migration after experiencing 1 exodus.

Personally I'd say try Bladefist -> Outlands first.

After a week or so, if the first stage worked out, add in Daggerspine -> Outlands.

There's ups and downs to all systems. Running half as many migrations at a time would mean the last realms will have to wait 4-6 months for a much needed chance to offload some queues. (Before you say "no problem" imagine being last on the list.) And running as many migrations, but spread out on twice as many destination realms to avoid the issue Outland might have runs the risk of half the destination realms never filling up at all.

If the migration these first 12 hours indicate that we'll get an overpopulated Outland we'll discuss possible actions. I'll want the numbers first though.
