Subject: The PvE server situation
I would've posted this last night but someone forgot to put 50p in the forum meter

Please note before I start that his isn't a flame. It's more of a confusion post. We all know that at the moment there is just one recommended realm. That recommended realm is Kilrogg. However, a few weeks ago this "recommended" realm achieved queue's and has a higher population then other servers.

I've taken a census of online players between the time of 23:30 and 00:00 GMT+1. So we are beyond peak time.

Kilrogg - Recommended
Horde - 717
Alliance - 1268
Total - 1985

Quel'thalas - Low
Horde - 451
Alliance - 944
Total - 1395

Silvermoon - Full
Horde - 357
Alliance - 1004
Total - 1361

So the ratings are from the realm selection screen and the users online were just taken. What is shown is that at this very moment in time, the new PvE server has more users on at the same time then a low-medium population server (Quel'thalas) and a high populated server (Silvermoon).

I fail to see why this is not dealt with in bringing another PvE server online. There's no overall rerolling fears as those who play on PvE servers on the whole like to establish a long lasting community (there will be some rerollers obviously, but not to the extent of the PvP servers).

Before anyone says that it could've been a one off. Jone, who has been against new realms until recently also noticed it

Q u o t e:
Ok, my question is simple. Why is kirogg recommended when it has well over 1300 alliance players right now and 600+ horde players?

I ask this because AFAIK most -if not all- servers with this population would be stated as full, or medium populated. Or am I seeing ghosts?.

PS I checked with a who "level number" search so there might be even more players online/active.

Please don't take this as a flame. i want this thread to be a discussion about the PvE server situation. If you agree or disagree then feel free to post, but post with reasons please and keep it civilized.

Kilrogg was supposed to lose the Recommended tag last Wednesday. It was unfortunately left on by mistake, and finally removed today.

Apart from that I can assure you we have very accurate numbers to base the tags on. Third party sites or mods will never be used by us as a tool to determine the need for realms or for updating tags.

Q u o t e:
remains the question why such jobs as labeling a server are not automated ...

Because there's a few things that humans do better, like observing that a realm might have a low population on what's usually the peak evening of the week due to a national celebration or an important football match, or keeping in mind that some realms are involved in migration (and the players' indications on the size of that migration).

Yes, it can probably be programmed, but we feel more comfortable doing it this way for now. :)
