This evening my guild killed Onyxia and was unable to skin her. We checked for extra items on the corpse which had been unlooted, but were unable to find any even though a bag icon persisted. I also noticed that the volume of Draconic for Dummies I need did not drop. I'm assuming these issues are related, as if this quest item was on the corpse then we would be unable to skin.
As I was the master looter, I would have assumed that I could see any remaining loot and distribute it so that we could get those much needed Onyxia Scales. For reference sake, I was the only person in the raid on this particular quest, so I doubt it could have been any other quest item, as no one was on their quest for the Quel'Serar either.
I spoke with a GM about this issue earlier, who was very helpful by the way, and was informed that the issue was most likely with my UI and gave me steps on how to rectify the issue. I followed these, but I am very uncertain about how well it worked. I have no custom UI so I don't know why this would alter the drops that I can get.
What I would like to know is:
1) Is there anyway at all I can get the volume of Draconic for Dummies I am missing or, more importantly, some Onyxia Scales which my guild desperately needs?
2) Assuming this was a User Interface issue, and being as I have no custom UI, how can I be certain that this issue won't happen again and prevent us from getting these scales?

Hello, Vortar. This is an issue about which we are aware relating to Draconic for Dummies, and are working toward a resolution. Faizaniel's description of the issue is correct. Please accept my apologies for any inconvenience this may have caused. If you would please, submit another in-game petition noting that you were unable to loot Draconic for Dummies, and were consequentially unable to skin Onyxia. While I'm unable to guarantee restoration of this loot, I'll see to it that the issue is forwarded to our Character Specialists for further investigation. Good luck to you, Vortar. ; )
