Subject: Purchasing gold?
Is it true that if you are to purchase gold, with real money, that your account can be terminated? I was wondering becuase my even lower level freind asked me if I wanted to get in on helping purchase xx amount of gold, I just wanted to make sure it will not terminate my account. Also, if it is not considered legal can you please point out where it says it isnt?

Thank you

Thanks for quick response cay even though you didn't directly answer my question. so its thats that. You can buy gold without getting in trouble.

Er.

No, I believe that's precisely what the thread I linked DIDN'T say.

For clarification:

Q u o t e:
We also want to remind potential buyers in the game to please refrain from buying in-game property with real money. We understand the temptation to purchase better items, but Blizzard, and not the seller, does own all in-game property. In addition, we feel that characters can find ample equipment and money within the game through their own adventuring and questing. Please understand that if you do purchase in-game property from sellers on eBay and personal sites, we may temporarily suspend your account, and at the very least, delete the offending items.

Read the bolded part. :)

ok...... so its not against the TOS. because in your little link it doesnt say anything about it breaking TOS.

Neither does the bolded part. or maybe i'm just reading what i want to read and clearly missing the part where it says.... "Buying gold is against the TOS and we will termiante your account."

It does state that suspensions will be levied. This can indeed lead up to termination depending on the case.

whay to the CMs like cay have to be so cryptic? its annoying and this is the reason that CMS are seen as unhelpful and even smug. just tell your paying customers what your official stance is after they as you point blank about three times in one thread...worst customer service ever. I know that CMs dont always get all of the info to relay to the customers but in this case you are just being annoying.

In the case of legal matters, Goldbeard, it often isn't our choice. Saying the wrong thing can lead to a wealth of problems when speaking of policy, particularly when it involves real-world transactions.

Q u o t e:
It says ebay and personal sites...ebay is still an auction style of service, even though some businesses will sell stuff there. Highest bidder wins the prize, so to speak. And personal sites sounds like some website that any player can setup to sell stuff they acquire through the game.

would ige.com be considered a personal site or a business class site? newegg.com and amazon.com wouldn't be considered personal sites would they? I interpret the link you posted to as one player buying/selling from/to another player. Is this correct?

also, if i'm wrong in my assumption, why wouldn't you have a list of some of the examples in that section of the ToS that can get a player in trouble? (Example)

"It has come to our attention that certain INDIVIDUALS are selling Blizzard's in-game property for cash on auction sites such as eBay and on personal websites (i.e. ige.com)..."

I honestly think that deals are made on the side between Blizzard and the bigger companies, ige.com for instance, so you'll never actually name them. Is this true? I wouldn't expect an answer on this however, because i'm sure you wouldn't be permitted to comment on it.

A list of the examples would be taken as a "well, if it's not on this list, it doesn't count" rule by many. We keep it vague, but IGE does count.

Please do not make baseless accusations on the affiliation of such sites with Blizzard. We do not condone the sales of gold and in-game items and are taking action.
